What a laugh!
Jan Tomisc’s career as a burglar was not going very well. One night, as he was walking through the streets of Warsaw, Jan saw a large house and decided to break into it. He got through an unlocked window but, while he was filling his sack with silver, he heard voices. He quickly hid behind the sofa and a moment later two men came into the room.
‘Right let’s hear it.’ said the first man.
‘All right.’ replied the second. Jan immediately recognized the voice of one of the men. It was Jaraslav, one of Poland’s greatest comics, who imitated famous people.
Jaraslav began imitating the prime minister and Jan, who was hiding behind the sofa, started laughing to himself. Next Jaraslav imitated the Bishop of Cracow. Jan started to shake with laughter and tears were running down his face. In the end Jan exploded with laughter. Jaraslav immediately broke off his performance and rang up the police. Jan was still laughing when the police came to arrest him.
Text B.
Hungry housebreaker
William Brady of Hove was convicted of burglary at Brighton magistrate’s court last Thursday, and sentenced to six months in prison. Brady broke into one of the large houses in Lansdowne Avenue. He got in through the kitchen window, but was disappointed to find the door to the rest of the house locked.
He did not find anything valuable in the kitchen, but he did find a cupboard full of food. First he had a large pork pie, then he ate a ham sandwich, followed by a chicken sandwich. He finished off with an enormous ріеce of chocolate cake.
After that, he relaxed in his chair and soon dropped off. He was still sleeping happily when the police came to arrest him the next morning.
