3. Talk about the problem of food additives in the world

Thousands of man-made and natural substances are added to the food and drink we consume. Some of these additives are vitamins and minerals to improve our health and preservatives to slow decay. Others enhance flavor or color, add texture and make foods less acidic.

Salt, sugar and fat are things we are all careful about when we choose our food, Nevertheless, these days people are much more anxious about additives - special substances which are added to food for a number of reasons, for example, to improve the flavor, to add more colour, or even to lengthen expiry date. Most of these additives have a number. Many of the numbers have an E in front of them. Some of these E numbers are colors, some are preservatives, others a thickeners, or sweeteners. The E in E numbers stands for the EEC (The European Economic Community), which had already started to look at the problem of additives before the UK became a member in 1973.The EEC intends to establish a list of additives which are acceptable, and which it can allow in member countries. However, it won't have completed the list for some time, and many additives are still without a number. If an additive has no E before the number, it may mean that the EEC has rejected it. What’s the problem? Much of our food today is not natural, but processed food contains additives. The average Briton, born in 1980, will have eaten about 50 kilos of additives by the year 2000. After Maurice Hansen’s book E is for Additives had set out the possible effect of additives on certain users, it was thought that some additives might cause certain people to feel unwell, or suffer from allergies and even nervous disorders, and that they can cause children to behave in abnormal ways.

As for me, i don’t think that additives can be that dangerous to cut your favorite products out of your diet. But nevertheless you shouldn’t ignore the precautions scientists do to save your health.

4. Speak about going out to eat at a restaurant.

I don’t like eating out because it’s boring and you need o spend a lot of money on it. But at once my sister invited me to a new restaurant. I wanted to refuse her, but when I learned that the restaurant situated handy for my house, I agreed. What is more, my sister wanted to treat me.

I was busy all evening, but the restaurant was open every day till late at night. So we went there when there aren’t many people. I was a little bit disappointed, but the music was fantastic and the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and modern décor. When we came into the waiter asked if we booked a table. We said no, my sister didn’t reserve because she knew that there wouldn’t be a lot of people. So we hoped that the waiter will fill us in. he said to us hang on and looked for a table. The waiter found one right at the back near the kitchen sir. The menu had a variety of dishes. I wanted to try something sophisticated and I found something appreciate for me. It was the avocado prawn. My sister decided to order the trout and some vegetables. But to start with we ordered vegetable salads. As for drink I ordered orange juice and my sister mineral water. As for dessert we ordered ice-creams.

I liked the avocado prawn very much and my sister liked her fish and vegetables too. We couldn’t understand what happened with our starters. The waiter may be has forgotten about them. So we decided to pay the bill and get out of here. When we got our bill we were surprised that it was included our salads, we said him that we didn’t give them and also about service which was included in the bill. We asked to check the bill and when he came he gave us a new bill and said that we should pay 5 pounds for service. Because they are not getting a tip.

So my sister and I liked dishes but we didn’t liked service because it was slow and striking for this surprise in the bill.

Conclusion, I occasionally drop in to McDonald’s or a pizzeria, but on the whole I’m not used to going out. Actually, I prefer to cook and eat at home. That’s probably because when I was younger I liked to watch my grandma cooking and sometimes to help her. So, I picked up a lot of cooking tips from her and now, being a student, I don’t have any problems with preparing dishes.
