Основные союзы, характерные для всех видов условных предложений, следующие: if – если; in case – в случае; если, on condition – при условии, что; suppose (that) – предположим, что; provided (that) – при условии что и т.д. Например:
Take an umbrella in case it rains. –
Suppose it rains, what shall we do?
If you know English well, you can read English books in the original.
If you knew the rule well, you wrote the test paper well.
122
If you learned the rule yesterday, you can answer it now.
If you learn the rule, you will answer it tomorrow.
If the weather is fine, I shall go for a walk.
если действие относится к настоящему или будущему, то в условном предложении употребляются неперфектные формы сослагательного наклонения – Past Subjunctive или нереальное Past Indefinite, а в главном – аналитическая форма I сослагательного наклонения с неперфектным инфинитивом (should/would + do):
If he were free tomorrow, he would go with us to the museum.
If we paid more attention to grammar, we should know the language better.
(should, would + have done).
If she had not planned that excursion, nothing would ever have happened.
If I had not received the letter, I shouldn’t have written the answer.
If we had not missed the train, we should be at home now.
If he were clever, he wouldn’t have said it.
