1. Я геть збилася з ніг, шукаючи вас біля стадіону; я прийшла сюди, щоб подивитися змагання, а не для того, щоб усюди вас наздоганяти. 2. Було важко дістати квитки на матч, бажаючих відвідати гру було надзвичайно багато і глядачі переповнювали стадіон у чвертьфіналі. Уявляю, що буде у фіналі. 3. Вона здобула новий рекорд у потрійних стрибках в довжину, тим самим наздогнавши свою давню суперницю. 4. В молодості він мав атлетичний склад тіла та навіть був чемпіоном країни з армреслінгу; зараз, хоча він й кинув заняття спортом, проте лишився активним вболівальником. 5. Він захоплюється важкою атлетикою, займаючись зі штангою, гантелями, тренуючись на тренажерах; якщо ви зіштовхнетесь з ним в тренажерному залі, то це далеко не випадковість. 6. Грабіжник вхопив її телефон і, рухаючись швидко, немов спринтер, зник за рогом. Вона трішки пробігла слідом і зупинилася, деякий час вдивляючись в далечінь, проте вже його не побачила. 7. 1 different prepositions are used before a Gerund: idea / opportunity / possibility OF, but difficulty/interest IN, reason IN/OF (depending on the context). E.g. I see no reason in doing it. What’s the reason of your being late?
2 the verb to be preoccupied is used before the preposition with, plus a Noun or a Gerund: E.g.: The child was preoccupied with his new toy/sticking his toy on the wall.
3 if the modal form COULD is used in the present, it serves to perform a deeper emotional colouring. E.g.: The team can’t/couldn’t play better than now.
4 The expression TO SPEAK IN A VOICE THAT CARRIES WELL means “to speak clearly and with a fine oratorical skill”
5 The playing area for football, rugby, hockey and cricket is called a pitch; for tennis, volleyball, basketball, squash and badminton it is a court; for golf it is a course.
6 No preposition is used after climb in the meaning of “go or come up a (slope or staircase); ascend”: to climb a mountain/rock/ladder/hill
7 Mind the use of the preposition after scared: to be scared + OF + Gerund, E.g.They are scared of climbing the hill.
8 ADRENALIN JUNKIE means “a person addicted to adrenalin, extreme sports and activities”
9 PARKOUR means “the sport or activity of running through urban areas while performing various gymnastic manoeuvres over or on man-made obstacles”
10 DECADE means “the period of ten years” in English while Ukrainian ДЕКАДА means “ten days”.
11 Mind the absence of the preposition after OFEER, E.g.: He offered me his help
