The theme #5: brian wilson aldiss

Task: 1) Make notes of the article: Aldiss Brian, W., Wingrove, D. Trillion Year Spree: The History of Science Fiction. London: Gollancz, 1986.

2) Read the story “Outside”.

Plan

1.The life and work of Brian Wilson Aldiss. He is one of the leading contemporary authors of Sci-fi literature of UK.

2. The collection of stories “Hothouse” (1965).

3. The story "The Saliva Tree" written on the centenary of the birth of H. Wells.

4. Art world of adventure and travel in his essay "Outside":

4.1 Attitudes to the rights and genuine human values in the text. Travelling into space and time. Analyze of characters (Harley, Calvin, Depp, Mei etc.).

4.2 The role of work in relation to it and the main characters. "Card Game" as the artistic method analyze of the characters. Feature images of life in parallel to the existing reality versions of their lives, looking for truth.

4.3. The structure of "strange house". The image of Harley and his attitude to music.

4.4 The desire to show the human civilization inside the human being. Two causes of human emotions and the human fear of claustrophobia inside.

4.5 Chance insight: only creatures similar to humans.

The theme #6: john wyndham (1903-1969) – english scince-fiction author

Task: 1) Read the story "Dumb Martian" and equality of human rights: male and female.

Plan

  1. British science-fiction writer – John Wyndham. His life and work.

  2. In 1953 the author invented the term – “chronoclasm”, which means a specific time paradox. Interpretation of this neologism in the science fiction literature.

  3. Ideas of "scientific humanism" J. Wyndham – a position that man exists only as part of humanity and should be responsible for own attitude and behavior.

  4. "Dumb Martian" as a work of supporting women's strength.

  5. The equality of human rights: male and female.

  6. The image characteristics of the main characters: Duncan Weaver, and Alan Marsiyanky.

  7. The human relationship to the Jupiter station, attitude to money.

  8. The main idea of the text and different kinds of problems.
