20. The history of the company.

Harper and Grant Ltd. Started 42 years ago by Ambrose Harper and Wingate Grant. Wingate Grant died and his son Hector is the Managing Director, Ambrose Harper is the Chairman. He is semi-retired but he comes to the office and attends the board meetings. The company began to produce steel wastepaper bins for offices. As smoking in offices became widespread steel bins were in demand. As they are safer than the old ones made of straw. Wintgate Grant always believed that luck turned business into success or failure. H and G Ltd. became successful when they got a big contract to supply government offices with steel wastepaper bins.Later H and G Ltd began to produce office equipment: desks, chairs, cupboards and smaller objects. All of them are made of pressed steel. H.G believes that he knows the best way to run a business. However, his nephew Peter Wiles (Production Manager) and John Martin (Sales Manager) are more adventurous. They want to treble business. So they are planning to introduce new business techniques and increase export.
