Disagreement, refusal, disapproval
Vocabulary to be learnt.
That’s not right / correct / true (That’s wrong) – Это неверно.
Certainly / Surely / Decidedly not. – Конечно, нет. Безусловно, нет.
You are wrong. (You are mistaken.) – Вы не правы. Вы ошибаетесь.
I can’t agree (I disagree) with you. – Не могу согласиться. Не согласен.
I’m of different opinion. – Я придерживаюсь другого мнения.
I can’t do anything to help – Ничем не могу помочь.
I can’t deal with that now. – Мне не до этого сейчас.
/ am against it. (I object to it.) – Я против. Возражаю
/ am sorry, but I must refuse. – Сожалею, но должен отказаться.
I’d rather not. – Пожалуй, нет. Не хотелось бы.
That won’t do! – Меня это не устраивает.
It’s out of the question. – Об этом не может быть и речи.
By no means. – Ни в коем случае.
It’s no use. – Это бесполезно.
It isn’t worth talking about. – Стоит ли говорить об этом!
Nothing of the kind! On the contrary! – Ничего подобного. Наоборот.
It won’t do. – Ничего не выйдет
Why on earth? – С какой стати?
Far from it. – Далеко не так. Отнюдь нет.
Just the other way round. – Как раз наоборот.

Ex. 9. Translate the dialogues into English.
1. – Анна, свари нам кофе.
– С какой стати я должна это делать? Мне не до этого сейчас.
– Как раз наоборот. Это твоя обязанность (duty), ты – мой секретарь.
– Чепуха! Меня это не устраивает!
2. – Я пойду на вокзал (railway station) пешком (on foot).
– Ни в коем случае. Я против. Это слишком далеко.
– Как раз наоборот. Это займет всего 20 минут.
– Ничего подобного! Давай я тебя подвезу.
– Ладно. С тобой бесполезно разговаривать.
3. – Пора спать, Миша. Уже около 11 часов.
– Ты не права. Еще только 10.30. Можно я еще немного почитаю?
– Меня это не устраивает. Ложись спать.
– С какой стати? Ведь завтра воскресенье.
– Все равно (All the same) тебе пора спать и стоит ли больше говорить об этом.

Poor thing! (Poor me!) – Бедняжка! (Бедная я, несчастная.)
How dreadful! (How awful!) – Какой ужас! Ужасно!

Relax! Cheer up! – Не унывай. Выше голову.

Don’t worry – Не беспокойтесь.

Calm down – Успокойтесь.
Don't get upset – Не расстраивайтесь.
Things do happen – Всякое бывает.

You’d better – Вам бы лучше …
It can’t be helped – Что ж, ничего не поделаешь.
You’ll get over it – Вы это переживете.
Everything will be all right – Все будет хорошо.
Ex. 10. Translate the dialogues into English.
1. – Бедная я, несчастная! Я завалила (to fail an exam) экзамен.
– Какой ужас! Не может быть. Мне так жаль.
Я не знала ответа на последний вопрос (last question).
Не унывай, выше голову. Успокойся.
– Ужас! Я потеряла библиотечную книгу (a library book).
Не расстраивайся. Всякое бывает.
Что мне теперь делать?
На твоем месте я бы купил (to buy) такую же книгу.
Это хорошая идея.
– Могу ли я чем-нибудь тебе помочь?
Я очень волнуюсь, Катя все еще не вернулась (to come back from) из института.
Смотри на вещи проще. Она – большая девочка.
