Other, another, the other, others

1. As an attribute (как местоимение- прилагательное)

The other side, the other book, another book, the other books.

The other + noun= the second of the two= другой, второй из двух

The other + nouns= the rest= другие, остальные (из определённого количества)

Another + noun= an additional one, a different one = любой другой

Another + nouns= some additional (days, books, etc) = ещё 2 дня, 2 книги и т.п. (another 4 days)

2. As a pronoun (как местоимение- существительное)

Other

1) = part of a set, the second of 2 things or people (used with the)

I’ve found one ear-ring – do you know where the other one is?

2) = additional to the idem or person already mentioned

Are there any other people we should speak with?

Others

1) = additional ones

I only know about this book, but there might be others (other books).

2) = people in general, not including yourself

You shouldn’t expect others to do you work for you.

Another

1) = additional amount, one more person or thing

I’m going to have another piece of cake.

2) = different, a different person o thing

Do you want to exchange this toaster for another (one)?

Note:

One way or another-тем или другим путём, способом

One another= each other= друг друга

One after another= один за другим

The other day = на днях

In other words = другими словами

Other than …= никто другой, как

On the other hand = с другой стороны
