Communication and navigation

GLONASS space navigation system the system operates in the interest of the Ministry of Defense and national economy.

The space navigation system includes:

1. a space segment consisting of an orbital group of 24 spacecraft evenly distributed on circular orbits with an altitude of 20,000 km and inclination of 55° to 65°. In longitude, the orbital planes are spaced 120° apart, each plane accommodating 8 satellites evenly spaced 45° apart in latitude. The planes proper are shifted 15° relative to each other;

2. a ground-based segment, i.e. a ground-based control complex (GCC) used to provide functioning of the orbital group, continuously specify satellite orbit parameters, generate and deliver time programs, control commands and special information to the satellites. The GCC includes a center to control the system and a network of stations used to introduce changes and to accomplish control and command;

3. a segment of users including special means arranged on moving objects to receive navigational signals from the satellites, make ballistic and orbital calculations, and accomplish tie-in of the missile systems and position areas of the troops (navy) according to their designations;

4. a space missile complex providing for the prelaunch preparation of the launch vehicle and the launch of satellites.

Космічна навігаційна система ГЛОНАСС діє в інтересах Міністерства оборони та народного господарства.

До складу космічної навігаційної системи входять:

1. космічний сегмент, що складається з орбітального угрупування у складі 24 космічних апаратів, рівномірно рознесених на кругових орбітах заввишки 20000 км і нахилом 55-65°. Орбітальні площини рознесені по довготі на 120°, в кожній площині розміщуються по 8 супутників з рівномірним зрушенням по аргументу широти 45°. Самі площині зфазовані один щодо одного на 15°;

2. наземний сегмент – наземний комплекс управління (ПКУ) для забезпечення функціонування орбітального угруповання, безперервного уточнення параметрів орбіт супутників, формування і видачі на борт тимчасових програм, команд управління і спеціальної інформації. ПКУ включає в себе центр управління системою і мережу станцій вимірювань, управління і контролю;

3. сегмент споживачів включає спеціальні засоби, встановлені на рухомих об'єктах, для прийому навігаційних сигналів з супутників, проведення балістичних і орбітальних розрахунків, координатної прив'язки ракетних комплексів і бойових позицій військ (сил флоту) по призначенню;

4. ракетно-космічний комплекс, що забезпечує передстартову підготовку ракети-носія і запуск супутників.

GLONASS spacecraft designed to operate within the GLONASS global navigational satellite system with the purpose of providing continuous, operational and precision navigation-time support for an unlimited number of moving objects located on the Earth surface, in the air and near-earth space-determining the location of an object using three coordinates, determining its speed and direction of travel and specifying the own time relative to the state standard scale (UTC) arid universal time (UT-1).
