Introduction

Our everyday life is rather tough. It is full of work, troubles, unexpected situations, problems and so on. We can change almost nothing and should accept it as it is and just try to cope with it. At least we should try to balance our emotions and find something to gain strength from. I believe for many of us weekends is time that we can devote to ourselves, let loose and just enjoy ourselves. We’ve listened to a nice story in our auditory class in which an American named Harry describes his weekends. And I’d like to compare Harry’s weekends with mine.

Main Part

To begin with, I must admit that Harry is lucky to have his weekends begun on Friday night. It is when he goes to a bar for the happy hour, and he also has a chance to go to bed early these days. Harry gets up early on Saturday morning, and it’s the time for cleaning the house, washing the car, doing the laundry, and then it’s usually time to go out for lunch or maybe brunch, it depends on the time. As for me, I have to study on Saturday, that’s why my weekends start on Saturday afternoon, and it is only then when I begin to clean my room. And in the evening I may spend time with my friends or may just stay at home and relax. You know, sometimes it feels amazing to be alone at home and not to be disturbed by anyone. And for Harry Saturday afternoon is a time to play. He may go for a walk on the beach, or play tennis, or go for a run. Well, he just tries to get physical and get some fresh air. And then in the evening Harry sometimes goes to a movie, but usually he goes to watch a band. We see he has plenty to do on a Saturday. And on Sundays Harry normally gets an enormous pile of newspapers delivered, and he just sits in the garden over a cup of coffee, with maybe a continental breakfast and reads the newspapers. So, he just has a nice quiet morning. And that’s the kind of morning I always try to have. I usually wake up as late as possible on Sunday morning. Surprisingly, but most of the time it happens no later than 9 or 10 a.m. During the next hour I just lie in bed and watch TV, then I cook myself a simple breakfast and start doing my assignment. In the afternoon I may go shopping, and if I’m not out of money, sometimes I go to the café with my friend. In the evening I get back to the assignment, and that’s why I unfortunately manage to go to bed pretty late at night. So, on the whole I do my best to have a rather lazy Sunday, but I must confess that quite often I don’t manage to do it. As for Harry, on Sunday evening he also quiets down a bit. It’s time to get ready for Monday, another week. He usually has an early night and maybe watches a little television.

Conclusion

So, we see that Harry and I do have some things in common about spending our weekends, and, of course, some things differ. Well, in my opinion, what really matters is that we both try to have a great time and rest not only physically, but also spiritually.
