Remember the expressions used when you greet somebody:

When you ask someone how the things are with him you may say:

When you close a conversation you should:

  • mention the next meeting:

  • thank the person for help/a meal, etc.:

  • give them good wishes:

When you introduce yourself or somebody you may say:

When you meet someone for the first time you may say:

When you introduce yourself to a stranger, you usually do these four things:

  1. greet them;

  2. say your name;

  3. give extra information ( e.g. job, where you’re from …);

  4. say something pleasant.

Introduce people in the correct order:

  • introduce lower status to higher status;

  • introduce younger people to older people;

  • introduce men to women.

REMEMBER

  1. Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms are used only with a family name. These titles are not used alone: Mr. Smith; Miss Green.

  2. Sir/Madam/Miss are used instead of a name when you address someone you don’t know: Excuse me, Sir.

  3. We use Doctor with a surname: Dr. North. When you address a doctor of medicine you may use title alone.

  4. Professor is used with a name of the person only: Prof. Frank.

  5. When you know someone well, you may use the first name: Mary, David.
