1.11.5 Союзные слова

В научно-технической литературе часто встречаются союзные слова, выражаемые местоимениями в сочетании с усилительной частицей ever. Как правило, все сочетания с ever переводятся соответствующим русским словом с добавлением “бы ни”:

whatever	что бы ни; какой бы ни; любой
however	как бы ни; однако
whichever	какой бы ни; независимо от того; который
whereas	тогда как; несмотря на то, что

Например:

Whenever the reaction rate changes the temperature changes accordingly.	Когда бы ни изменялась скорость реакции, соответственным образом изменяется температура.
Whoever signed the agreement the problem is how to reduce the cost of production.	Независимо от того, кто подписал договор, проблема заключается в том, как сократить издержки производства.

Упражнение 35. Переведите следующие предложения, обращая особое внимание на перевод союзов и союзных слов

1.11.6 Наречия enough и too

Наречия enough (sufficiently) и too (insufficiently), используемые после существительного с прилагательным с последующим инфинитивным оборотом, переводятся как “достаточно… (чтобы)” и “слишком… (чтобы)” соответственно.

The term K is assumed small enough to be neglected.	Член K принимается достаточно малым, и поэтому им можно пренебречь.
This value is apparently low enough not to affect the compression of the airspace significantly.	Это значение очевидно достаточно низкое, и поэтому не оказывает существенного влияния на процесс сжатия воздушного объема.

Если этот инфинитивный оборот имеет подлежащее с предлогом for, то он переводится придаточным предложением, которое начинается со слова поэтому:

Rc is sufficiently high for transition to occur before separation.

Значение Rc достаточно велико, и поэтому переход наступает до разделения.
