29) Extreme Sports (kiting, sailing and other water sports, street luge, bungee jumping, base jumping – decipher this name)

Sailing is the art of controlling a boat with large pieces of canvas cloth called sails. By changing the rigging, rudder, and dagger or centre board, a sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails in order to change the direction and speed of a boat. Mastery of the skill requires experience in varying wind and sea conditions, as well as knowledge concerning sailboats.

Kiting - The Chinese can be considered the inventors of kite boarding. Since the 12th century, they used kites to propel (продвигать) their canoes on rivers.

In parallel with kite boarding invented in New Zealand, in United States has been developed and kite surf.

Simplicity of the sport makes it increasingly more interesting. Your body is the only connection between kite and board and you must control them both at the same time: to fly the sky kite and drive the board. Modern kites using convex edges that the kite have a shape of “crescent moon”(полумесяц) . Due to the aggressive form , the kite is always `pushed up` even on water. The person who is practicing this sport needs to be very skilled when launching the kite .

World Renowned Water Sports:

SKURFING: This is the most exciting and thrilling game where participant the skurfers skurfs behind a boat on a surfboard and they are not towed with anything.

BARE FOOT WATER SKIING: without skiing equipments and ski boards, the skier practice bare footed skiing and he is towed with string which is hocked (прикреплена) to a fast moving motorboat.

BODY BOARDING: Quite similar to surfing but here surfer lies down on a smaller board than surfing board and enjoys direct splashes of high sea waves.

CANOEING: Canoe is a small and simple boat and people enjoy it for long hours isolations and paddling (плыть с веслом) the boat for just enjoying solitude(одиночество) or very company of some beloved one. People do it for arms and shoulders exercises and family they cheer up with on Sunday at lack sides.

KAYAKING: Little similar to canoeing but main difference is the that canoe has broad and spitted cockpit ahead but a kayak has very short and toe like cockpit to cross the water sharply and fleshing down and up with water streams.

KITE SURFING: Kite surfing or kite boarding is just like boarding a two footed or sometime single footed board with towed a string and a kite (бумажный змей) in the sky, where kite moves, surfers moves indeed.

PARASAILING:- where a person is towed behind a vehicle (usually a boat) while attached to a parachute

RAFTING: A challenging recreational activity where rafters board an air blown boat like thing for rafting expeditions in rough and unknown water bodies to explore the ways and finding water navigation.

ROWING:- Rowing a boat for sailing or for sports completions purposes.

SAILING: using the wind for propulsion.(толчок)

WINDSURFING:- On flat water using wind for propulsion in combination with sails(парус)

YACHTING:- Sailing on yachts, day sailing, cruising or Yacht racing

Street luge is an extreme gravity-powered activity that involves riding a streetluge board (sometimes referred to as a sled(сани)) down a paved road or course. Street luge is also known as land luge or road luge. Like skateboarding, street luge is often done for sport and for recreation.

Street luge was born in Southern California as downhill skateboarders found they could reach faster speeds by lying down on their skateboards. This early form of the sport is now referred to as "classic style" or "butt boarding".

Street lugers ride boards in the supine position. (лежа на спине)

Current street luge boards are made from many materials including steel, aluminum, wood, and carbon fibre.

Riders participating in sanctioned racing events are required to wear safety equipment including:

Hard-shell helmet with chin strap(ремень на подбородке) and face shield or goggles(прорези для глаз)

Leather or Kevlar (synthetic fiber(ткань из синтетического волокна) racing suit

Leather or Kevlar gloves

Sturdy (крепкие) Shoes

Bungee jumping is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord (шнур). The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot-air-balloon (монгольфьер ?!) or helicopter, that has the ability to hover (парить) above the ground. The thrill comes as much from the free-falling as from the rebounds (рикошет, отскакивание). When the person jumps, the cord stretches and the jumper flies upwards again as the cord recoils (отскакивает), and continues to oscillate (раскачиваться) up and down until all the energy is dissipated (растрачена).

The word "bungee" originates from West Country dialect of English language, meaning "Anything thick and squat (приземистый)"

The first modern bungee jumps were made on 1 April 1979 from the 250-foot (76 m) Clifton Suspension (подвесной) Bridge in Bristol, by members of the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club.

In August 2005, AJ Hackett added a SkyJump to the Macau Tower, making it the world's highest jump at 233 metres (764 ft).

BASE jumping, also sometimes written as B.A.S.E. jumping, is an activity where participants jump from fixed objects and use a parachute to break their fall. "BASE" is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs) (утес).

BASE jumping grew out of skydiving. BASE jumps are generally made from much lower altitudes than skydives, and a BASE jump takes place close to the object serving as the jump platform.
