I. Перепишите следующие предложения, определите в них видо-временные формы и
укажите их инфинитивы; переведите предложения на русский язык.
1. Today, the peoples of the world are so bound together that survival on our planet depends on
knowledge and understanding of one another and respect for peoples whose ways are different
from one’s own.
2. The roles of men, women and children in the family were all affected by the changes in the
early years of industrialization.
3. Sport has been identified as primarily a social and not an athletic activity.
4. Nature tourism attracts the individual who enjoys the wildlife. Vacationers in this group will
seek the beauty of the national parks, the foliage of New England, or the excitement of an
African Safari.
II. Перепишите следующие предложения и переведите их на русский язык, обращая
внимание на разные функции слов it, that, one.
1. Persons may know one another very well and yet be bitter rivals and equally bitter enemies.
2. The first principle of anthropology is that cultures must be studied as wholes, and no custom
or belief can be properly understood unless seen in the context within which it operates.
3. It is easy to see why there are fundamental likenesses in all cultures when we remember that
all human organisms are essentially alike and that, by virtue of this fact, man’s basic needs are
the same.
4. While it is difficult for most adults to learn to speak a foreign language perfectly, that is
without an accent, a child readily learns as its “native” language the one it hears spoken by the
people around it as it first learns to speak.
5. Teach children that a person in a hurry is not relaxed, and that one rarely completes any task

IV. Перепишите следующие предложения и переведите их на русский язык, обращая
внимание на перевод инфинитива и герундия.
1. Getting to know people is a necessary prelude to understanding and respect, but such
knowledge alone will not resolve our differences or insure our liking people whose ways are
alien to us.
2. The cultured person is thought to be one who is well educated, well mannered and refined in
behavior; who appreciates a certain type of art and prefers Beethoven to the latest hit tunes.
3. Tourists learn about themselves by learning about the world around them.
4. People in high-pressure careers need time off to reenergize. Some need to get away from the
hustle and bustle of urban life.
5. As people learn more about countries, cultures and attractions, a desire develops to travel and
explore.
V. Перепишите и письменно переведите на русский язык следующие предложения,
учитывая, что объектный и субъектный обороты соответствуют придаточным
предложениям.
1. Researchers have found that physically attractive people of all ages are expected to be more
interesting, intelligent, sociable, well adjusted, moral, and successful than those who are less
attractive.
2. We value similarity – and sometimes exaggerate its extent among our friends because it is
important to us to have others agree with our choices and beliefs.
3. In some cases, when people’s attraction seems to be founded on their “differentness”, reseach
suggests that their critical qualities are not opposites but compliments. Complimentary traits
are needs or skills that complete or balance each other.
4. Good-looking people are expected to radiate their attractiveness to others. They are also
presumed to be good and attractive in other ways besides looks.
