1 My family and I

My name is Marat Ishmuhametov. I am twenty — three. I come from AIsheevsky District. My family lives there.

I am a first-year student of the Bashkir State Agrarian University. I study by correspondence. I am at the Agronomy (Economics, Veterinary Medicine, Farm Mechanization, Energy Supply, Land Management and Forestry, Food Technologies, Information Technologies and Management, Biotechnologies) Department. I live in Ufa now. I have a wife and a daughter. My daughter is three and she goes to kindergarten. My wife is a teacher of English at school.

Let me introduce my family to you. My family is large. I have Father, Mother, one sister and two brothers.

My father is an agronomist on a big farm. He is a very busy man. He has much work all the year round. My mother is an economist on the same farm. She is fond of her work.

My elder brother is an engineer. He is twenty-seven. He is married and has two children.

My younger brother is a student of the Bashkir State Agrarian University. He is a fifth-year student of the Agronomy Department. He is going to become an agronomist like our father.

My sister is a schoolgirl. Her name is Sveta. She is fond of mathematics and would like to become an economist.

1 love my family and I think that our family is friendly. We are always glad to meet at our parents' home.

2 Our University

I am a student of the Bashkir State Agrarian University. It is in Ufa.

It is one of the oldest in the city.

There are several departments at the University. They are the departments of Economics, Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine, Farm Mechanization, Energy Supply, Land Management and Forestry, Information Technologies and Management, Food Technologies and

Biotechnologies.

The University consists of six buildings. There are many classrooms,

laboratories and lecture halls. The classrooms and lecture halls are large

and light. Our University has a computer center and many computer

classrooms. There is also a good library and several reading rooms. Our

students can go in for sports. There are gyms, a swimming pool and a large

stadium.

Our University trains highly skilled experts of agriculture. They work

at agricultural enterprises, experimental stations, banks and scientific

research institutes.

3 Our Republic

The republic of Bashkortostan was formed in 1919. It lies both in Europe and Asia. The climate is continental. The population is over 4 million people.

Bashkortostan is a well developed republic. Its main industries are oil refining and chemical. As for agriculture, vegetable growing and livestock breeding are on a high level here. Our farmers grow wheat, rye, buckwheat, barley, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage etc. Horse-breeding, cattle-breeding and bee-keeping are traditional occupations of Bashkirs.

The capital of Bashkortostan is Ufa. It is the largest industrial and cultural centre of the republic. Our city has five theatres, a lot of cinemas, several museums and entertainment centres.

The republic has many schools, colleges, institutes and universities. The nature of our republic is very beautiful and people from different

parts of Russia come to Bashkir sanatoriums and rest homes.

4 Great Britain

Britain has several names: Britain, Great Britain, the British Isles. Its official name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The population of the country is 57 (fifty-seven) million people.

The climate is warm and damp. There are many rivers in Great Britain and the longest river is the Thames. The largest cities are London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham.

Great Britain is a highly developed industrial country. Its main industries are coal mining, machinery, textiles, electronics. The capital of Great Britain is London.

Agriculture is a highly developed branch of the British economy too. The chief agricultural products of Great Britain are meat, milk, potatoes, sugar beet, wheat, barley and oats. Pig and poultry farms are common in Great Britain. Great Britain usually imports meat, butter, sugar, wheat, tea, fruit and other products.

5 Russia

Russia is the largest country in the world. It is situated in Europe and Asia. Its total area is over 17 million square kilometres. The climate is different in different parts of our country.

The population of the Russian Federation is about 150 million people.

Russia is among the world leaders in mineral resources. It in rich in coal, oil, iron, natural gas, copper. Russia is a highly developed industrial country. Its oil and chemical industries are well developed. As for agriculture animal breeding and crop growing are on a high level here. Farmers of Russia grow cereals such as wheat, barley, rye, and vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots.

The capital of the country is Moscow. It was founded in 1147. Now it is the most important political, industrial and cultural centre of the country. The Red Square, the Kremlin and other sights attract tourists from all over the world to Moscow.

Russia plays an important role in the world. It is a peace-loving

country and a member of many peaceful organizations.
