Work and Career. Text 5. Read and translate the text

Hello! Yes, it’s me, Nora, again. I must say that the graduation seems so far away now, and so does the search for a job. I do not work at the moment, because I do not have enough time, and I also think that combining work with study is not such a great idea. Doing that you probably won’t be good in both. You will always be tired, not well enough prepared for your Classes, and what’s more, you won’t have time to broaden your horizon by reading or doing things you really like to do. I think that working while studying is for those who are bored or lack money. But it is not my point. I know that sooner or later I will have to find a job, which is not an easy thing to do.

To begin with right now I am not quite sure what I would like to be. My future profession will definitely be connected with economics, business or management. There are so many options! One can be in accounting which is a profession that deals with the collection, organization, and presentation of financial information for effective decision-making in a company. Another good option is marketing which can be defined as a set of different business activities for planning, pricing, promoting, and distributing goods and services. I could be a logistician, who manages the supply chain, arranges transportation and storage of materials. Still nowadays young people are attracted by an opportunity to start a business of their own. This is a risky thing to do, because there is a big chance to fail and lose all the money you invested in the enterprise.

I think, I prefer not to risk, but to do everything to do my work well and be promoted. Not so long ago I’ve read an article about some ways to get a promotion or to improve career. Here are the things you need to do:

- First of all you should stay focused; you should be mentally present at work. Daydreaming has never been a way to become effective neither in studies, nor at work.

- Secondly, you should set goals. There might be long-term goals, and short-term ones. Once you set them you can outline a plan and think over the way to achieve them.

- The third thing is to socialize with your colleagues. It is not only a way to maintain friendly atmosphere, but also an opportunity to be updated on the information about what’s going on around you. Your colleagues can also help you sometimes.

- Do not be afraid to risk. Do not be afraid to change a job or ask for promotion if you really deserve it. Accept challengers, because, as you know: fortune favours the bold.

- The last, but not less important is to know how to relax. It is impossible to be productive if you are exhausted and not getting enough sleep. So you should attend to your personal life, and do things that make you happy.

I think these are very useful advices; I will try to follow them when the time comes.
