Colour television is the transmission and reception of images in full colour. The colour television system can produce programs both in colour on colour receivers and

in black and white on monochrome receivers. Also, colour receivers receive monochrome pictures when they are being transmitted. Colour transmission contains two basic components -brightness information and colour information. Red, green and blue are the colours that are chosen for colour television.

Colour cameras. In a colour camera an optical system se­parates the red, green and blue image components of a picture and concentrates these three components in separ­ate but identical colour camera tubes. Thus the output of one tube reacts to the red light image: another - to the green, and another - to the blue light image.

Colour kinescope. In a monochrome kinescope a single electron gun produces an electron beam, The brightness is controlled by an electron grid, which changes the electron beam density.

In colour kinescope three electron guns produce three electron beams which are synchronized. The intensities of beam are controlled by the voltage corresponding to the green, red, and blue components respectively of the colour picture,

Banks are different in different countries. Let's speak about the banks in the United States of America. There, commertial banks are classified into two main groups. First, there are national banks. They are charted and su­pervised by the Federal Government. Secondly, there are state banks. They are charted and supervised by the state in which they are operated. All commercial banks can make loans to borrowers.

Major commercial banks in such cities as Tokyo, Paris, Rio cooperate with each other. In this way they finance im­ports and exports between countries.

An importer buys merchandise from another country using the currency of that country. For that purpose he buys this currency from the foreign exchange department of his bank. And in the same way if an exporter receives foreign money from sales to other countries. he sells this curren­cy to his bank. By this method the currency of any country

Units of Measurement.

Much of physics deals with measurements of physical quantities such as length, time, frequency, velocity area, volume, mass, density, charge ,temperature and energy. Many of these quantities are interrelated. For example, velocity is length divided by time. Density is mass divided by volume is a length, times a second length, times a third length. Most of the physical quantities are related to length, time and mass.

There are two main systems of measurement in use today: the English system of units (or as it is often called the Common system of units) and the metric system of units) and the metric system of units. Except for the United States and Great Britain nearly all the nations of the world use the metric system. Although the English system of units is still the official system in the US, American scientists use the metric system almost exclusively. The value of the metric system is that its various units possess Simple and logical relationships among themselves, while in the Common system I mile is equal to 1760 yards; I yard is equal to 3 feet, and I foot is equal to 12 inches. In the latter system con­verting one unit into another is a hard and monotonous job.

A partnership is an association of two or more persons to carry on a business for profit. When the owners of the partnership have unlimited liability they are called general partners. If partners have limited liability they are "limited partners". There may be a silent partner as well - a person who is known to the public as a member of the firm but without authority in management. The reverse of the silent partner is the secret pertner - a person who takes part in management but who is not known to the public.

Any business may have the form of the partnership, for

example, in such professional fields as medicine, law, accounting, insurance and stockbrokerage. Limited partners­hips are a common form of ownership in real estate, oil prospecting. quarrying industries, etc.

Partnerships have more advantages than sole proprietor­ships if one needs a big capital or diversified management. Like sole proprietorship they are easy to form and offen get tax benefits form the government.

In the metric system the main unit of distance is the meter. Other units of distance are always obtained by multiplying the meter by 10 or a multiply of 10.Thanks to our system of writing numbers this means that convertions of one unit to another within the metric system can be carried out by shifts of a decimal point.

There are several standard units of length in use to­day such as meter, inch, foot, mile and centimeter. The meter was originally defined in terms of the distance from the north pole to the equator, this distance being close to 10,000 kilometers or 10meters. The standart meter of the world is the distance between two scratches on a platinum-alloy bar being kept at the International Bureau of Heights and Measures in France. However there is a unit of length in Nature much more accurate than the distance between two scratches on a piece of metal. This is the wavelength of light from any sharp spectral line. The standard meter in France has been calibrated in terms of the* number of wavelengths of light of a certain spectral line.

A business corporation is an institution established for the purpose of making profit. It is operated by individuals. Their shares of ownership are represented by stock certificates. A person who owns a stock certi­ficate if called a stock-holder. There are several advantages of the corporate form of

ownership. The first is the ability to attract financial resources. The next advantage is the corporation attract a large amount of capital it can invest it in plants, equipment and research. find the third advantage is that a corporation can often higher salaries and thus attract talented managers and specialists.

The privately owned business corporation is one type of corporation. There are some other types too. Educational, religious. charitable institutions can also incorporate. Usually such corporation does not issue stock and is nonprofit. If there is a profit it is reinvested in the institution rather than distributed to private stock­holders.
