Ufa State Aircraft Technical University

The University was founded on the basis of Rybinsk Aircraft Institute, established in 1932 and evacuated to Ufa in December, 1941. In 1942, the Institute was renamed into Ufa Aircraft Institute named after Sergo Ordgonikidze. In 1992 the USATU got a new status – it became a technical university. Now this University is one of the top higher educational and production institution.

The University encorporates 7 departments at full-time division, part-time division; 2 branches and 6 representations in the cities of Bashkortostan and Chelyabinsk region.

About 10.000 students are trained at 46 chairs; 8000 of them are full-time students. The University currently employs more than 700 instructors, including 139 Doctors of Science, 450 Candidates of Science, 60 Full-members and Corresponding members of various Russian and foreign academies.

More than 50.000 students have been trained here for the years of its existence. Many of the University graduates are heads of R&D institutes (research and development), general directors of the largest associations, statesmen of our country.

Modern economy needs professionals of a wide scope to answer strategic tasks of the future. Specialists are trained in 47 trades, which are traditional for the University, such as Aircraft and Rocket Building, Power engineering, Power generation, Instrument-making, Electronics and microelectronic, Automation and Management.

The University cooperates with famous universities in Germany, France, Belgium, the USA, Turkey, China. Foreign lectors are invited to give lectures in Economics, Banking, Investment activity, Psychology, Management, etc.

A high standart of theoretical and methodological background of the professor and instructor stuff, computer assisted instruction technologies facilitate training highly-qualified specialists and the better adaptation to scientific and professional activity.

A multi-level system of specialist training was introduced in 1990. The University provides post-graduate and doctorate training.

Industry of bashkortostan

Bashkortostan Republic is one of the greatest industrial centers in Russia. Its industrial production volumes let the republic enter stable the ten top among the main economic regions in Russia. Two multi-sectorial complexes predominate here. They are as follows: machinery and oil-gas extracting, oil-and-gas treatment, oil-and chemical, chemical, microbiological industries, connected in their technological process. There are more then 150 factories gathered in the machinery complex. Its greatest part is provided for oil-gas extracting and treatment process as well as for chemical, oil-chemical, mining industries. Machine-building and pipe-line tools production were put into operation in Sterlitamak, vehicle-production - in Neftekamsk, wood working production - in Uchaly; metallurgical industry in Byeloretsk. There is a powerful production base, unique equipment and production technologies in industry and science of the defense complex. The cooperation's and joint ventures with foreign partners are being established. The Republic oil refining complex is the second most technically powerful in Europe, Bashkortostan is the first in oil processing in Russia. Electric power is an important part of the Republic economy. The total electric power production output lets Bashkortostan enter the first ten top producers among all energy system in Russia; the electric power shipment values - the first five top. Bashkortostan is a great center of chemical and petrochemical industry. Soda and synthetic alcohol produced here is the cheapest in this country. The production of plastics, synthetic rubber and others is less expensive here than in Russia on an average. Bashkortostan has at its disposal beneficial conditions for black metallurgy development. Non ferrous metallurgy is represented by copper-pyrites ores and gold extracting and concentrating enterprises. For many years the republic has been the important core base for non-ferrous metallurgy of the Urals region as well as a major supplier of sulphur raw materials to some chemical plants in Russia. Timber industry is also highly developed in the republic. Chemical-pharmaceutical, glass, consumer-goods, food, medical industries and other branches are developed in Bashkortostan Republic as well.

MY NATIVE TOWN.

My native town is the town of Sterlitamak. Not long ago it celebrated its 235th anniversary. The town of Sterlitamak is situated on the banks of two rivers: the Belaya and Sterlya. The river Sterlya divides the town into two parts. The older part of the town lies on the right bank. Here you can see many historic architectural buildings. On the banks of the Sterlya one can also see modern apartment houses, offices, shops. Sterlitamak is a fast-growing town. More than 250 000 people inhabit it now. It's a southern regional center of the republic of Bashkortostan. There are some big plants here and some smaller factories. The largest enterprises are: the "Kaustik" and "Kauchuk" Works, the "Soda" Works is considered to be the largest in Europe. The town's industry supplies the country with chemical products. Modern machine-tools, footwear are also manufactured in our town.

There are several residential areas in our town. Every district has schools, kindergartens, shops, everyday services. Sterlitamak is a big cultural centre. There are many institutions of higher education, technical colleges, some cinemas, the Drama theatre, Palaces of culture, a picture gallery and a local museum. Sterlitamak is very green because there are very many trees, parks and recreation areas in it.

The newly built streets are wide and spacious, lined with trees and flowers. The streets of the town are very clean. The citizens are proud of their town and like it very much.
