Router(config) interface fastethernet 1/1

2. To assign a VTP domain of coriolis to the interface, use the following command:

Router(config) mls rp vtp−domain coriolis

Warning This step must be performed prior to using any of the other MLS interface commands on the MLS interface. If this command is not used first, the interface will be placed in a null domain and will be unable to perform MLS functions.

Enabling MLS on an Individual Interface

After MLS has been placed into a VTP domain, you must enable MLS on each interface that is to participate in MLS. To enable MLS on an interface, perform the following tasks:

1.Enter Interface Configuration mode on the interface for which you want to enable MLS using the following command:

Router(config)interface fastethernet 1/1

2. Use the following command to enable MLS on the interface:

Router(config−if)# mls rp ip

Disabling MLS on an External Router Interface

To disable MLS on an interface, perform these tasks:

1.Enter Interface Configuration mode on the interface for which you want to disable MLS using the following command:

Router(config)interface fastethernet 1/1

2. Use the following command to disable MLS on the interface:

Router(config−if)# no mls rp ip

Configuring the MLS Switch Engine

Configuring the MLS−SE (Catalyst 5000 and 6000) for MLS involves the following tasks:

Re−enabling MLS

Enabling aging timers

Configuring the MLS Management Interface

Let’s examine each of these tasks, as well as how to disable each of these features in case they are no longer needed on an interface.

Re−enabling MLS on a Catalyst 6000

By default, MLS is enabled on all Catalyst switches that support Layer 3 switching. To re−enable MLS on a Catalyst 6000, perform the following tasks:

1. Enter Interface Configuration mode for the VLAN interface. This example uses VLAN 11:

CAT6000(config)interface vlan 11

2. Enter the mls ip command to re−enable MLS on the VLAN interface:

CAT6000(config)mls ip

237

Re−enabling MLS on a Catalyst 5000

To re−enable MLS on a Catalyst 5000, use the following command:

CAT5000(enable) set mls enable

Disabling MLS on a Catalyst 6000

To disable MLS on a Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

CAT6000(config) no mls ip

Disabling MLS on a Catalyst 5000

To disable MLS on a Catalyst 5000, use the following command:

CAT5000(enable) set mls disable

Configuring the MLS Cache on the Catalyst 5000

To configure the MLS cache on a Catalyst 5000, use this command:

set mls agingtime <seconds>

An example is shown here:

Console>(enable) set mls agingtime 512

Multilayer switching aging time set to 512

Configuring Fast Aging on a Catalyst 5000

To configure the fast aging time on the Cisco Catalyst 5000, use the following command:

set mls agingtime fast <fastagingtime> <pkt_threshold>

An example of using this command looks like this:

CAT5000>(enable) set mls agingtime fast 32 7

Multilayer switching fast aging time set to 32 seconds for entries with no more than 7 packets switched.

Configuring Fast Aging on a Catalyst 6000

To configure the fast aging time on the Cisco Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

mls aging fast threshold <packet_count> time <seconds>

An example of using the mls aging fast command is as follows:

CAT6000(config)# mls aging fast threshold 64 time 30

Disabling Fast Aging on a Catalyst 6000

To disable the fast aging time on the Cisco Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

no mls aging fast

238

Configuring Long Aging on the Catalyst 6000

To configure the long aging time on the Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

mls aging long <seconds>

An example of using the mls aging long command is as follows:

mls aging long 64

Disabling Long Aging on the Catalyst 6000

To disable the long aging time on the Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

no mls aging long

Configuring Normal Aging on the Catalyst 6000

To configure the normal aging time on the Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

mls aging normal <seconds>

An example is as follows:

mls aging normal 32

Disabling Normal Aging on the Catalyst 6000

To disable the normal aging time on the Catalyst 6000, use the following command:

no mls aging normal

Assigning MLS Management to an Interface on the Catalyst 5000

To enable an interface to be a management interface, follow these steps:

1. Enter Interface Configuration mode on the interface using the following command:

CAT5000(config)interface fastethernet 1/1

2. To enable the interface as the management interface, use the following command:

CAT5000(config)mls rp management−interface

Disabling MLS Management on an Interface on the Catalyst 5000

To disable a management interface, perform the following tasks:

1. Enter Interface Configuration mode on the interface using the following command:

CAT5000(config)interface fastethernet 1/1

2. To disable the interface as the management interface, use the following command:

CAT5000(config−if)no mls rp management−interface
