Who are you waiting for?
It's Saturday at four p.m. I'm sitting in the lobby of Richard's hotel, smoking. My daughter Vera, sitting next to me, is reading a book. She's got a camera. Taking pictures is Vera's hobby. She wants to take some pictures today. Richard often sits here and waits for me, but today we're waiting for him. There he is! He's coming out of the elevator. Sometimes we walk to the office from the hotel. But we aren't walking to the office now. We're walking to the metro station.
Richard often asks me about myself. Now he's asking me about my family. How big is it? How old are they? What are their jobs? What are their hobbies? I have a large family and I show him our family tree.

We get to our house and take the elevator to the fifth floor. Richard keeps asking us questions. How much is the rent? Who owns our apartment? How many people share it? His last question is: do they speak English?
Dialogues
Vic and his daughter Vera meet Richard Johnson in the hotel.
Pardon me, sir. Are you waiting for the British group of tourists?
No, I'm not. We're waiting for the American businessman, Mr. Johnson.
An American?
Yes, here he is, coming out of the elevator. Hi, Richard!
Hi, Vic!
This is my daughter Vera. She is a student. She can speak English.
Oh, hello. Vera. Glad to meet you. Do you speak English?
Yes, I do. Nice to meet you, Mr. Johnson. I can speak a little English. But I always make mistakes. Still you can only learn to speak by speaking, isn't that right?
Yes, I guess so. You have a camera here. Can you take a picture of us in front of the hotel?
Why not? Taking pictures is my hobby!
And I like sports. My hobby is swimming.
How do we get to your place, Vic?
You can't walk to our place, Rich. It's far from here.
How do you usually get there?
I usually go by metro. It's faster than walking.
We're walking to the metro next, right?
— That's right.
