4. In the shop

C3 Student Card

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You want to buy a T-shirt for your sister as a souvenir. Your sister wears size 8.She likes bright colours.

Ask the shop assistant about

- the sizes they’ve got

- the prices

- the colours

You begin the conversation. The teacher will play the part of the shop assistant.

Remember to:

- be active and polite

- ask the questions and find out all the information you need

- decide on the shirt you will buy

P.- Good morning.

T.- Good morning. Can I help you?

P.- Yes, please. I’d like to buy this T-shirt as a souvenir for my sister. What sizes do you have?

T.- Let me see. We’ve got these T-shirts from the 8th to 16th sizes.

P.- OK. My sister wears size 8. What colours do you have?

T.- The choice is quite rich. We have grey, black, white, red, light blue, orange, light green.

P.- Oh, I think orange is good for her. She likes bright colours. How much are they?

T. –They are 2 for piece.

P. –It’s great. It isn’t very expensive.

T.- Well, which one have you chosen?

p. – I think, orange will be good for her.

T. – You can pay for it at the cash desk.

P.- Thank you very much. Good bye.

T.- Good bye.

5. At the airport

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You have just arrived from Moscow at Gatwick airport. You can’t find your luggage

Ask an airport officer what to do. Remember to

  • say your name and the flight number.

  • ask when and where you can get your luggage.

  • say where you are going to stay(the address of the hotel)

  • ask what documents you need to get the luggage

You begin the conversation. The teacher will play the part of the airport officer.

Remember to:

- ask the questions and find out all the information you need

- decide what your friend will do

Dialogue

P-Hello! Could you help me? My name is…I’ve just arrived from Moscow and can’t find my luggage

-Oh , I’m sorry to hear that. What is your flight number?

P-The number of my flight is 78…Oh, I don’t know what to do…

-Don’t worry! Wait a minute, please!vI’ll check on the computer…..You see, your luggage was left in the airport in Moscow

P-Oh, thanks a lot about the information… but when and where can I get my luggage?

-. It will be delivered the next flight later this afternoon. Sorry, where you are going to stay?

P-At the hotel not far from here

- So, tell me the address and your luggage will be sent directly to the hotel.

P-Oh, it’s great! What documents shall I need to get the luggage back?

-Well, a passport, of course

P-Thanks for information! Bye-bye!!!!

6. At a music school

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You want to learn to play the guitar. You’ve come to a music school. You would like to take several classes with a professional teacher. You can have classes after your school lessons. You don’t know how to choose the right instrument.

Before making a decision ask the music school administrator about

- how much you have to pay

- the timetable

- whether someone in the school can help you choose the guitar to buy

You begin the conversation. The teacher will play the part of the receptionist.

Remember to:

- be active and polite

- ask the questions and find out all the information you need

- make an appointment

Read and learn the dialogue

-Hello!

-Hello! Can I help you?

- Would you give me information about guitar classes with a professional teacher?

- Certainly. We have a guitar course for beginners

-Well, how much shall I have to pay?

- You see, it is free for school students.

- Oh, it’s great! How often do you have classes?

-Let me see…..Twice a week: on Monday and Thursday from 10 a.m. till 11a.m. or on Wednesday and Friday from 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. Which days do you prefer?

-I think Monday and Thursday will be O.K.

-Well, can I write down your name in your students’ list?

--My name is …I’m from Private School №1.Tell me please, if someone in the school can help me to choose the guitar.

-There is a musical instruments shop near the school and teachers can help their students to choose the instruments. So, come half an hour earlier before the first lesson to buy the guitar

7. With a classmate.

You’ve met you classmate. He is disappointed he has problems with his parents. You have time to speak to him and discuss his problems. You are ready to give him advice.

Before giving advice ask your friend about

- the reasons of misunderstanding with his parents

- what other problems he has

- what ways of solving these problems he sees

You begin the conversation. The teacher will play the part of you friend.

Remember to:

- ask the questions and find out all the information you need

- decide what your friend will do

P.- Hi! Haven’t seen you for ages, wait a bit, you look sad. What has happened?

P2.-Oh, I have some problems with my parents. I think they don’t understand me.

P.- What a pity! I’ve always thought you are quite happy with your parents. What is wrong now?

P2.- They just treat me as if I’m a child. They can’t understand that I’m not an infant.

P.- I see. I’ve heard about “generation gap”, it means, that they don’t share your interests. Do you know what the reasons are?

P2.- Of course I do. They are people of other generation, the generation with different tastes and preferences.

P.- Well, and do you have any other problems?

P2– Oh, the fact is that I practically don’t have problems with my teachers and friends, with my appearance, I tried to smoke and can drink a can of beer, but I don’t think it is a problem.

P. –Do you? But what are you going to do in the situation with your parents?

P2- The best way is to talk to them but it’s not easy, they can get offended.

P.- I’m glad that you understand it. Try to express your opinion I’m sure they’ll understand you. Good bye.
