1. At the museum

C3 Student Card

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

Imagine that you and your friend are in the British Museum. You are trying to decide which hall to begin with- the hall devoted to Ancient Egypt, the picture gallery ,the exhibition of ancient books or the anthropological hall.

Remember to:

- be active and polite

- make a decision to satisfy both of you

Read and learn the dialogue

P.- Hi! Haven’t seen you for ages,

- Hi! Haven’t seen you for ages, too.

P-How are you?

-I’m fine, thanks And you?

P- I’m fine too. So, let’s go inside. You see, the British Museum consists of three halls- the hall devoted to Ancient Egypt, the picture gallery, the exhibition of ancient books or the anthropological hall and we should decide what to see first

- Shall we begin with the exhibition of ancient books? I‘m fond of books especially old ones.

P--It’s great, but I’m interested in Ancient Egypt with all its mummies. What do you think about it?

-It’s a good idea, but the exhibition of ancient books closes earlier than the others

P- O.K. then! Let’s go there first .And what about the picture gallery?

- Sure! We’ll visit it later. Besides, there is a temporary exhibition in the picture gallery but you’ll have to pay an admission fee.

P- Well, let’s start our excursion!

2. At the hotel

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You’re staying at a hotel with your relative. The relative has a cold and needs to see a doctor. Talk to the hotel receptionict and find out where you can find a doctor and make an appointment if possible.

Ask the receptionist about

-if there is a doctor close to the hotel

- the doctor’s working hours

- how much you should pay for the visit

You begin the conversation. The teacher will play the part of the receptionist.

Remember to:

- be active and polite

- ask the questions and find out all the information you need

- make an appointment

Read and learn the dialogue

-Good morning!

- Good morning! Can I help you?

- You see, my sister has a cold. Is there a doctor close to a hotel?

- Certainly. There is a local hospital 5 minutes walk from the hotel .You can visit a doctor there.

-Could you tell me the doctor’s working hours?

-Just a minute….Reception hours are from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. All the time for today is booked, but tomorrow is still open.

-O.K. Tell me please, how much should I pay for the visit?

-If you are a hotel guest, the first visit is free. Then the doctor informs about the price list for further treatment.

- Oh, thank you.

-Wait a minute! Can I write down your sister’s name in appointment list?

-Sure! Svetlana Ivanova.

-When will she come?

-Oh, let me think….Tomorrow at 10 a.m.

-O.K.I hope she will be better soon Bye-bye

- Bye-bye

3. At the reception

Task 2 (2–3 minutes)

You need to get from London to Оxford. You need to be there at 2 pm tomorrow. You mustn’t be late.

Ask the receptionist in your hotel about

- if you can get to Oxford by train

- the timetable

- the travelling time

You begin the conversation. The teacher will play the part of the receptionist.

Remember to:

- be active and polite

- ask the questions and find out all the information you need

- decide on the train you will take

P.-Hello.

T.-Hello. How can I help you?

P.-Could you tell me how I can get to Oxford by train?

T.- Of course, there is a railway station not far from here. I think you can get there by train.

P.- I see. Do you happen to know when the classes usually start? I only have time on weekdays in the afternoon.

T.- It depends. As soon as you know your level I’ll be able to tell you the exact time.

P.- Well, and how much should I pay for the course? The fact is that my parents can pay only ₤30 per week.

T. – Oh, I don’t think it will cost you more.

P. –It’s great. When shall I start?

T.- Ok, you can write the entrance exam tomorrow at 9 in the morning and to know the results in the afternoon. So you’ll be able to start the day after tomorrow.

P.- Thank you very much. Good bye.

T.- Good bye.
