My future specialty

I am a student of the Department of Medical Psychology. It is one of the most popular specialties in modern medicine. This profession attracts me most of all because it is very noble, important and necessary to people.

It is one of the most ancient and humane professions on the Earth. Heroism is typical of medical profession. Medical men of different epochs and lands experimented with the vaccines of cholera, plague, yellow fever and others upon themselves. Nowadays thousands of doctors at the risk of their health and even life try to save or prolong lives of people who suffer from AIDS and other dangerous diseases (HIV infection is now the fourth largest killer in the world).

Modern psychologists sometimes have to work in extreme situations with the people in places of ecological disasters, earthquakes, with people who are hostages of terrorists and on the territories of armed conflicts. They help people to overcome these situations though their own lives are in danger.

Every doctor must take care of people, treat them and help them to be healthy physically and mentally. In order to perform all these duties doctors must have good knowledge of medicine and psychology.

A good psychologist must not and may not be indifferent to his profession, to his patients. He must have not only deep knowledge of a particular field of psychology. He must love people and have a kind heart.

Psychologists are hard at work trying to identify and solve the stress related problems that exist now and that may arise in future. I plan to carry out a research in this field. I hope psychology will play an important role in shaping the health and happiness of humankind in the coming years.
