§ I. Omsk state medical academy

The Omsk Stale Mcdical Academy (till 1994 - the Omsk Medical Institute) was founded m 1921. Five faculties (medical, pediatric, medico-prophylactic, stomatological and pharmaceutical), pre-educate guidance courses and post- graduate training centers, Academic clinic and other subdivisions function in the Academy.

The history of the Omsk medical academy began with the opening of the medical faculty. Later in 1932 the pediatric faculty was founded, in 1938 the sanitary-hygienic faculty was opened and in 1958 the stomatologic faculty appeared. As for pharmaceutical faculty, it was founded in 2002.

The Academy is accomodated in 6 buildings and has 3 hostels. Many clinical cathedras are based in the hospitals all around the town.

The Academy library is one of the largest libraries among the mcdical institutes of Russia.

Students studying on budgetary terms are granted for excellent and good achievements and an active participation in public activities.

The majority of students takes an active part in different scientific societies of the Academy.

Omsk medical Sciences schools are well known in Russia and abroad. The Academy is very proud of its alumni.

§ 2. Medical higher education

Many citizens of our country have always shown a great concern for education.

The right to education is stated in the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

After finishing the 11* form, a lyceum. of a gymnasium one can go in a higher education.

They under go practical training in clinics and hospitals to consolidate the theoretical and practical knowledge.

Medical higher education establishment are headed by Rectors. Pro-rectors are in charge of academic and scientific work. Each faculty headed by dean. Each chair has a head, usually a professor who serves as the chairman.

Most chairs in medical institutions have scientific societies for students interested in such specific subjects as Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, etc.

Education in our country is free of charge. Students get scholarships.

The system of higher education in Russia is going through a transitional period.

3 Medical education in great britain

Medical Education in Gread Britain consists of four generally recognized stages: premedical, undergraduate, postgraduate (internship) and continued education

Premedical courses emphasize physics, chemistry and byology.

Undergraduate education lasts five years. Medical schools begin their work with the study of the structure of the body. After the microscopic study has begun the student is introduced to pathological anatomy, bacteriology and immunology. Clinical work begins with general medicine and surgery and goes on to include the major clinical specialities.

A year of hospital work is required after qualification and before admission to the medical register..

After internship physicians usually seek furher graduate education and training to qualify themselves as specialists or to fulfill requirements for a higher academic degree.
