objection - verb - to feel or express opposition to or dislike of something or someone: Would anyone object if we started the meeting now? He objects to the label 'magician' which he is often given. No-one objected when the boss said it was time to go home.

organisation - noun - a group of people who form a business or other group together in order to achieve a particular aim:

He’s the president of a large international organization. The World Trade Organization The proposals were discussed at all levels of the organization.

realm - noun - an area of interest or activity: Her interests are in the realm of practical politics.

sustain - verb - to cause or allow something to continue for a period of time: The economy looks set to sustain its growth into next year. He seems to find it difficult to sustain relationships with women. US The judge sustained (= accepted) the lawyer's objection.

workforce - noun - all the people who work for a particular company, organization, etc:

The factory will have to lose half of its 1 000-strong workforce. Two-thirds of the workforce is/are women. The group plans to cut over 100 jobs, about 1% of its total workforce. Workforce planning is an ongoing process that influences all aspects of an organization.

advertise - verb - to tell the public about a product or a service in order to encourage people to buy or use it:

If you want to attract more customers, try advertising in the national press. to advertise a product/business/service The company’s new Internet service has been heavily advertised on television. Something advertised as a toy is likely to be used by children. I bought the camera and case as advertised in the catalogue. The cruise was advertised as the ‘journey of a lifetime’.

amount - noun - a quantity of money:

You will receive a bill for the full amount. The insurance company will refund any amount due to you. Small amounts will be paid in cash. You have to pay tax on the full amount.

distribute - verb - to make a product available to customers, for example, by supplying it to shops/stores and businesses:

Who distributes our products in the UK? The magazine is distributed through restaurants and clubs. We distribute worldwide. We have the exclusive licence to market and distribute their products in Japan. They distribute electricity to 2.3 million customers across England.

loan - noun - money that an organization such as a bank lends and sb borrows:

The government offers low-interest loans to small companies. Many people take out a loan to buy a new car. The loans should be repaid within ten years. The company had breached the terms of its loan agreement. The banks have refused to extend (= give) more loans to the company. Lower interest rates have made it easier for companies to service (= pay interest on) their loans.

patient - noun - a person who is receiving medical care, or who is cared for by a particular doctor or dentist when necessary:

I'm a patient of Dr Stephens, please could I make an appointment to see her?

persistent - adjective - lasting for a long time or difficult to get rid of: A persistent smell/skin rash Symptoms of the illness include a high temperature and a persistent dry cough. There have been persistent rumours that the managing director might take early retirement.

persuasive - adjective - making you want to do or believe a particular thing: A persuasive speaker/speech Your arguments are very persuasive. He can be very persuasive.

polite - adjective - behaving in a way that is socially correct and shows awareness of and caring for other people's feelings:

I'm afraid I wasn't very polite to her. She sent me a polite letter thanking me for my invitation. He was too polite to point out my mistake.

positive - adjective - greater than zero:

A positive amount indicates that there is money in the account.

practical - adjective - relating to experience, reality or action rather than ideas or imagination:

Qualifications are important but practical experience is always an advantage. The service offers young people practical advice on finding a job. What's the use of theoretical knowledge that has no practical application?

precise – noun - a short version of a speech or a piece of writing that gives the main points or ideas:

The talk was a brief precise of the annual report.

prepared - verb - to make or get something or someone ready for something that will happen in the future: Have you prepared for your interview? She'll prepare the food ahead of time and freeze it. This course aims to prepare students for middle and senior managerial positions.

punctual - adj- happening or doing sth at the arranged or correct time; not late:

She has been reliable and punctual. I want to make a punctual start at 9 o’clock.

repayable - adj- that must be paid or can be paid back at a particular time or in a particular way:

The loan is repayable in 2010. repayable loans The loan is repayable in monthly instalments.

repayment - noun - when you repay someone or something: Mortgage repayments the bank demanded immediate repayment

scheme - noun - a plan or system for doing or organizing sth:

a training/insurance scheme a scheme for recycling plastic Most employees will pay less tax under the new scheme.

sell – verb - to give in exchange for money:

The company has sold the hotel to private investors for $365 million. She sold him the car for $2 500. They sold the business at a profit/loss (= they gained/lost money when they sold it). The company expects to sell 300 000 cars a year.

sponsor - noun - a person or a company that helps pay the costs of sth such as a special event, a sports team or a scientific project, usually in order to advertise their products:

They are the main sponsors of the conference. The name of the club’s sponsors appears on the shirt. The race organizers are trying to attract major sponsors.

sponsorship - noun - the act of providing money for a special event, a sports team, etc. in order to advertise products; the money that is provided:

corporate sponsorship of the arts Local companies have provided €2 million in sponsorship for the scholarships. Our research shows that TV sponsorships are very effective.
