Nola Kaney is the owner of Brookvale Ceramics, a Sydney's Premier Ceramics and Stone Sculpture Studio, is interviewed by Alessandro Branca working for House Beautiful. Listen to the interview and tell about the Brookvale Ceramics.
AB: Good evening, Nola. I am Alessandro Bronco. I work for House
Beautiful I would like to ask you some question about art works of
your studio.
NK: Ok. Welcome.
AB: How long have you been working on this market? When was
your studio founded?
NK: We have been operating for 20 years and teaching Workshops and
Classes in primarily Stone Sculpture and contemporary and
traditional Ceramics. Our studio was set up in 1990 and since then
we have been teaching people of different age to create their own
unique pieces of art.
AB: To become your students should one have any experience in
ceramics or should one any special skills?
NK: No, he shouldn’t. Our classes cater for all levels of students,
beginner to professional, Adults and Children. We teach an
extensive range of techniques.
AB: What kind of classes do your students have?
NK: Our classroom is a stress free area where you can create, have fun,
form new friendships and discover your hidden artistic talents.
AB: Do they have common curriculum?
NK: No, they don’t. Students work at their own pace and are given as
much attention as needed by our friendly, fully qualified teachers.
Classes run for two and a half hours and for your convenience we
hold morning, afternoon and evening classes. As well as regular
classes, one day workshops are also popular.
AB: Do you conduct only traditional classes?
NK: We offer different types of classes varying from traditional to
entertainment ones. Children’s parties are very popular and are
usually held on Saturday afternoon from 3.30-5.30pm. Cost is $35
per child. This covers everything except food. We have 2 teachers
helping the children all the way to create a lovely ceramic plate,
bowl or jewelry box or anything of their choice. We then fire them,
glaze them and refire them and they can be picked up a week later.
The children have a great time. There isn't time for food during the
painting so at the end they may have what every small amount of food
you wish to bring. e.g. cake, drink, or just cup cakes. If there is time
the birthday girl or boy can open the presents brought for them. These
birthday parties are very easy on the parents. Parents of the birthday
girl or boy can stay or go and come back at the end.
AB: Are such birthday parties popular with people?
NK: Yes, they are. And if you want your child to have this kind of
birthday party you have to book your kids in for one of our popular
children’s classes during the school holidays. You are welcome to stay
and paint with your children too. Classes are held on Monday,
Wednesdays & Thursdays (2 classes per day) 10am-12pm or
1pm-3pm. Cost is $35 per child. All products and firings included.
Children can choose from Ceramics, Clay Hand Building, Mosaics,
Decopage. They love coming with their friends and it is also a great
way for all the children in your family to participate in an activity
together. One idea is to paint their own Christmas gifts.
AB: What other servicers do you offer for your clients?
NK: We haven't forgotten those professional Ceramicist's, Potter's and
Glass Artists and many more. Our extensive services such as our
Firing Service, Walkers Clay and Pottery Supplies, our shapes for
Glass Slumping and our open drop in classes where everyone is
welcome means that professional artists also use our class time to
work on their latest pieces as well.
AB: Where does your company have subsidiaries?
NK: We work in Australia. Brookvale Ceramics is Sidney based
company. We have but we are going to set up a subsidiary in
Melbourne. We enjoy our business and we try to do our best.
