Grammar continuous tenses

I. The Use of Continuous Tenses.

  • The Present Continuous is used to express:

  1. an action going on at the present moment, at the time of speaking;

e.g. Why are you crying? Чому ти плачеш?

  1. an action in its progress going on at the present period of time not necessarily at the time of speaking;

e.g. I’m studying at the University. Я вчуся в університеті.

  1. a continuous action going on at the same time with another action referring to the present time;

  • The Past Continuous is used to express:

II. The Formation of Continuous Tenses.

The Continuous Tenses are formed by means of the auxiliary verb to be in the Present, Past or Future Indefinite Tense and Present Participle of the main verb.
