George washington

In 1775-1783 America fought against Great Britain for freedom and independence. It was an unusual war which was fought on the American side by farmers, mechanics, tradesmen, fishermen and others. Ordinary men and women got up on their feet and after seven years' fighting with the help of France and French Fleet won. The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Congress on July 4. 1776. Since then the 1th of July has been considered to be a great holiday in America.

Speaking about American Revolutionary War of Independence we must say a few words about the first American president George Washington. At the start of the revolution George Washington was a planter and his tastes were peaceful. But when his country needed him he left his "Mount Vernon", the house which he loved so much and served seven years without pay as Commander-in-Chief of the American army.

On May 10, 1775, George Washington was elected by the Congress to command the American army against the British forces. When he arrived in Cambridge he found an army without military training and set about drilling and framing soldiers and the American army was soon able to drive the British forces from Boston. Though Washington was sometimes hunted like a fox he shared the cold and hunger of his ragged troops, but he never gave in. In 1789 he became the first president of the USA. Americana say about Washington that he was "first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen".

The Republic of Bashkortostan is the sovereign republic within the Russian Federation.

The supreme body of legislative and representative authority is two-chamber State Assembly - Kurultay of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The supreme body of the executive authority is the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The territory of the Republic is 143.6 th. sq. km (0.8 % of total area of the Russian Federation).

In the north the Republic borders with Perm and Sverdlovsk regions, in the east - with Chelyabinsk region, in the southeast, south and southwest - with the Orenburg region, in the west - with Republic of Tatarstan, in the northwest - with the Udmurt Republic. Extent of the territo­ry from north to south is 550 km, from west to east more than 430 km.

The population is 4.1 mln, people (2.7 % of the popula­tion of the Russian Federation). The Republic of Bashkortostan is the 7th as for the population among the subjects of the Russian Federation. There are 21 cities, 54 regions, 40 towns, 4602 villages.

The capital is Ufa, with the population of 1.1 mln, people.
