Every department at TIMI has appropriate laboratories for students to acquire knowledge and experience in general and special engineering subjects by mastering the foundations of modern science and the techniques of making experiments

Every student works and studies in the general laboratories at TIMI during the first few years of study, such as the physics laboratory, chemistry laboratory, materials laboratory, strength of materials laboratory, and computer programming laboratory.

In later years, according to the student's major, he or she works in various special laboratories to further develop and research pertinent problems depending on specific individual scientific-research problems These problems are developed into term papers and later, graduation theses Some special laboratories include: metal-cutting theory and tools design laboratory; mechanical engineering laboratory; automation, production, and technology laboratory; computer automated design system laboratory; laboratory of biomedical signals modeling and analysis; medical-biological research laboratory; theoretical fundamentals of electrical engineering laboratory; electric machines and devices laboratory; industrial robotechniques laboratory; hydropneumatic laboratory; laboratory of processes and food industry appliance production; etc.

Students who work in a laboratory at the Ternopil Instrument-Making Institute may encounter hazards of various types, including biological, and chemical, as well as lire in a laboratory, and are familiarized with these hazards and the risks they involve. Students properly trained in handling hazardous materials are better equipped to minimize the risk of exposure to themselves, their peers, and the environment.

Every laboratory at TIMI has a comprehensive health and safety program which includes documents that provide detailed descriptions of standard methods or operations used within the facility.

These documents commonly referred to as standard operating procedures (SOPs) are used by all students. The SOPs describe how to perform the method or operation in question.

The potential for fire and/or explosion is always present in laboratories. Fire extinguishers are conspicuously located where they will be readily accessible and immediately available in the event of fire. Laboratory assistants conduct inspection of fire extinguishers to ensure that they have been properly placed in all laboratories.

Heat detector systems are found in all laboratories and respond to the convected thermal energy of a fire. Each laboratory has adequate ventilation which controls the removal of smoke, gases and heat from the room. Protective clothing is used in laboratories including safety goggles, face shields, aprons, gloves, and laboratory coats.

The laboratory is a workplace that presents special health and safety issues. Paying attention to the standard operating procedures and making use of protective devices leads to safe and productive scientific research in laboratories.
