III
Koonin’s conception of English phraseology his classification is
based on the function of phr. Unit in speech.
1)
Nominative phraseological unit-fulfils a purely nominative function
in speech, denoting some extra linguistic element(object, phenomenon)
Adj +N(blue stocking, white elephant, blue blood) or predicative
structure(as cool as a cucumber)
2)
Communicative phr. Unit- which fulfils a communicative function in
the process of communication(represented by proverbs and
sayings)(Little things please little minds)
3)Nominative
– communicative phr.unit- is a verbal word group which fulfils a
nominative and a communicative functions simultaneously in speech and
which is transformed into a sentence when the verb is used in the
Passive voice. (to ask for a moon, to paint smb’s black)
4)Interjectional
phr unit- which fulfils the function of interjections in speech
(express emotion) By George!, All my buttons, dog my cats.
