Найбільш вірогідною є гіпотеза Партріджа, який вважає, що слово “slang” співвідноситься з дієсловом “to sling – to utter”, що засвідчує існування такого словосполучення як sling words ще за часів Чосера, а також пізніх сленгових сполучень з тим же дієсловом: sling language – to talk; sling the language – to swear fluently, to speak a foreign language; sling the bat – to speak the vernacular; sling a yarn – to relate a story, to tell a lie; sling (a person) slang – to abuse, scold violently
Наприклад, penny – yenep; two pence – owt yenep; fourpence – rouf yenep; seven pence – neves yenep; yes – say; look – cool; bones – enobs; police – slop; teddy-boys – yobs; policemen – namesclop; pot o`beer – top o`reeb; pound – dunop; bad – dab; good – doog; man – nam; woman – namow.
