INTRODUCTION
English prepositions are usually words that we hardly notice. These words are also troublesome because most of them are not explained by rules. In most cases, one simply has to remember which preposition goes with a certain verb. Phrasal verbs are simple verbs combined with adverbs/prepositions to make new verbs with a meaning different from that of the simple verbs.
The practice book “Phrasal Verbs in the News” consists of three units.
Unit 1 deals with phrasal verbs in accordance with verbs.
Unit 2 invites students to work with prepositions themselves.
Unit 3 encourages learners to practise exercises with synonyms and antonyms, as well as with phrasal verbs in short texts-contexts.
Further training includes tasks based on multiple choice exercises and the exercises aimed at choosing the right word/preposition out of two suggested. The book offers many proper names connected with famous politicians, names of countries, their derivatives. The content of the sentences helps enrich political vocabulary. Informative character of the given examples supports discussion on urgent problems in the modern world of politics and economy.
This practice book is intended for the students of International Relations school, intermediate to upper-intermediate learners who wish to gain practice in this area of the English language. It is for class and self study.
