9. Text №3. History of the building

Read the text and tell about the most important historical facts.
The main building of the University is located in one of the most beautiful places of city – on the bank of the Tura river. It was the most impressive building in Tyumen. In 1900 architect V.K. Oltarzhevsky, the author of a design, sent it to the World Exhibition in Paris and got a golden medal. Then the design was sold to Tyumen merchants Kolokolnikovs. In 1914 a beautiful building was constructed and a Commerce School was opened in it. It was called “A palace on the Hill”.
After the revolution there was the Pedagogical Institute. Building of University is a bright sample of Russian architectural culture and skills of builders and architects. During the Second World War it served as a hospital.
For last thirty years Architectural-Building Academy is housed here. In 1970-80 the nine-storey building and a hostel complex were constructed. Students took part in this process, it was good a professional training. Now our University continues to be under construction due to revival of famous charity traditions. The construction of the University was finished but now the Sport complex is being built. It will have 3 swimming pools, the gym, the Concert hall where our students will be able to give their performances.
It is known that people make a history. And people judge the Higher Institutions by their students and graduates. And the glorious history of Our University depends on your achievements and successes.
