Thirty pairs of smiling and curious eyes were watching a young woman coming in with a merry smile on her face. Peter was sitting in the far corner on an old rotten chair. He was invited to listen to her short lecture with the forth-formers after his successful lesson last week. Peter knew her - her name was Ann. She was a school psychologist and her lecture was supposed to help the 10-year old think about their traits and uniqueness as well as help them understand they can achieve whatever they wish… ‘Hello, boys and girls,’ she said, ‘Rather than it being a boring lesson, I’ve decided to tell you a story that happened to me when I was a child. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and I hope it’ll help bring out stories of your childhood too’ The children began to smile and whisper. So far, school routine hasn’t left negative marks on their souls, so it hasn’t resulted in negativity on their faces. Peter felt Okay around them – he thought it must be because they were small and harmless….so far. ‘So, are you ready to listen?’ Ann asked loudly.

‘Yes, we are!’, screamed little pupils.

Peter closed his eyes and relaxed in the chair after his long day. He felt annoyed, but the reason wasn’t his dull homework – it was Mary, his classmate. She was cute, well educated and he enjoyed seeing when her eyes were on him, though it made him feel uneasy and this was when the bloody surged to his cheeks. He didn’t fancy her, but she was different from other girls in their class – but the worst was that she knew it. Peter tried to hide his feelings and none seemed to notice his reaction. He didn’t want to be friends with Mary, not yet. But being an acquaintance was okay….for now. Or did he believe his true feelings? Peter did not want to answer.

He thought about his last chat with Mary at school and sighed. She’d come up to him with a friend, the red haired Natalie, who was rather cheeky and a bit stuck-up.

At work, he recalls past times with his wife, both happy and not so happy: Ellen helping him on his first breakthrough ad; the couple learning that she could not conceive a child, which in a way is a blessing given the fact that she has a heart condition that could have been adversely affected by the strain of carrying a child; a trip to Nassau.

It was on the plane ride to Nassau that Brad recalls having a bad scare, in which for a brief moment he thought his napping wife looked dead. After she awoke, and he told her about his fear, she made a joke that if she had died, he probably would have shipped her body back to New York and married a "Bahama mama". In response he told her that if she had really been dead, he would have used his imagination to keep her alive, and simply refused to accept she was dead.
