Hunt for missing golfing tourist

A search is under way for a 25-year-old man missing on a golfing trip with friends in Pembrokeshire. James Nutley, from Caldicot, Monmouthshire, was last seen in Tenby at around 2300 BST on Sunday. He had been staying at a local hotel. His friends later raised the alarm when he did not return. Dyfed-Powys Police and coastguards have been searching for him. Mr Nutley is 6ft 2ins tall, with brown hair, and was last seen wearing a white top with blue sleeves and blue jeans.

Inspector Les Clark said: "I'm gravely concerned for this young man."He's in the area with friends for a golfing break and has failed to return to his hotel room or make contact with his friends."I would appeal to anybody who may know him or anyone who's aware of his current whereabouts to get in contact with the police."

Police have confirmed that Mr Nutley arrived in Tenby sometime between 1700 BST and 1730 BST on Sunday. He then went to three pubs - The Lifeboat Inn on Tudor Square, The Three Mariners on George Street and then The Prince of Wales on Upper Frog Street.

Military to help young offenders

Military bases will open their doors to young criminals and children who are at risk of offending for voluntary day and weekend camps next year. The venture aims to help youngsters aged between eight and 17 get their lives back on track.

Three pilot projects, run by the Youth Justice Board and Ministry of Defence, will include exercise and education. Participants will have to behave, obey orders and will be under the instruction of military staff. But unlike America, children will not wear uniform or shave their heads and

the courses will be run over a series of days rather than intense six-month stays.

A spokeswoman for the Youth Justice Board (YJB) said: "It's amazing how much a self-esteem boost can change the trajectory of a young person's life. This project is an imaginative way of dealing with these kids.

"Some of the young people we deal with have never been away from their estate or a very small area."But they will not be forced to attend and the courses are not part of a court sentence." Youngsters will receive a certificate on completion of a course.

'We're not all hooligans'

"We're not all obese, lazy, drug-taking hooligans." So said a child reporter from the Children's Express, fed up with negative reporting of children. He had obviously been reading about "yobs", "thugs" and "monsters" in the newspapers. Stories on anti-social behaviour orders, underage sex, violence, bullying and other topics seem to lump all teenagers into one unsavoury group.

The Mori research studied 17 tabloid, broadsheet and local papers which ran a total of 603 "youth" related articles

between 2 August and 8 August this year. Negative articles accounted for 71% of the total, with 14% positive and 15% neutral. "Tabloid stories reach a larger number of people, so these stories may have a greater impact on public opinion," Mori said. The broadsheet stories were more focused on parenting and education, but these also contained stereotypes and bias, it added. But anti-socia! behaviour is not just about young people.
