Novosibirsk State Water Transport Academy is only higher educational institution of Siberia and the Far East that trains specialists for River and Sea Fleet. Its programs focus on professions in the fields of water transport, business and engineering.

The Academy was founded in 1951. Nowadays it has branches in Omsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yakutsk.

More then six thousand students study at its full-time and correspondence departments.

To enter the academy future students must pass entrance examinations. During the freshman year the curriculum is almost identical for all the students. It provides a solid foundation in mathematics, physics, drawing, programming, foreign languages, philosophy, history of Russia, etc. Then the students begin to major in their particular field and take professional courses.

The academic program is structured in a two-term format. At the end of each term/semester the students must receive credits and take exams. The students who pass them well get a grant.

The Academy provides a balanced program of rheoretical and practical study. The students have practical training on board ships, in ports and shipping companies, at shiprepair and shipbuilding plants.

The graduates from the Academy are awarded either a Diploma of Engineer or a Bachelor's degree.
