The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is the British equivalent of the Oscar. The highest award, the Academy Fellowship, is a prize given for an individual’s work and achievements during their career. Previous winners included Hitchcock and Fellini. There are awards for the outstanding film of the year and for special achievement by a British director, screen writer, or producer in their first film. There are also awards for best actor and actress in a leading role and in a supporting role. Achievements are also recognized in editing, lighting, and so on.

In the UK films have been given a certificate by British Board of Film Classification since 1912. U means the film is unclassified and anyone can go. PG means “parental guidance”. Anyone can go to these films but parents might not want to take young children. 12 is only for those over 12 years, 15 for those over 15 and 18 for those over 18.
