Hospitality Industry
Hospitality appeared in Ancient world. And now the hospitality industry is one of the most important, fastest-growing and well - developed industries in the world.
Nowadays large, modern hotels contain not only guest rooms but many other facilities as well. They usually contain restaurants and cocktail lounges, shops, business centers to conduct conventions and conferences and recreational facilities for leisure and entertainment. All these facilities require the employment of a large number of staff in proportion to the number of guests. The larger and more luxurious the hotel, the greater the variety of jobs it offers. There are different jobs in every hotel from chambermaid to the hotel manager. Nevertheless, the administration and organization of a small hotel is similar to a large one. In smaller hotels one or two managers do all kinds of work in hotel: room service, food service, registration and so on. In larger hotel you can find a great variety of jobs, for example, chief manager, receptionist, accountant, cooker, doorman and others.
Despite hospitality industry offers some exciting careers and a lot of job satisfaction, it is not easy working in a hotel - the peak holiday season is hard work, with employees often working long hours and sometimes seven days a week without any days-off.
People, who work in hotel in peak season have to work hard but can get paid sick leave, free food, free or cheap accommodation, and some free holidays! You should choose work in hospitality industry if you like communicating with people, because employees from porter to manager have to deal with great number of people every day. Job in hospitality industry can bring big incomes and carrier growth. The top people in management like managers in large hotels, executive housekeepers, food and beverage managers receive good salaries. Many hotel employees get additional income from tips.
In my opinion, working in hotel is interesting, but it is also very hard and stressful. As every job it has its advantages and disadvantages. So if you like people, if you are friendly and communicative this is the career for you.
