Прямая речь может быть либо передана так, как она была произнесена, либо описана с помощью сложноподчиненного предложения (косвенная речь):

Прямая речь вводится словами ... say/says/said, за которыми ставится запятая, и берется в кавычки. В косвенной речи запятая, как правило, не ставится и союз that часто не употребляется.

Условные предложения делятся на предложения реального условия и предложения нереального условия. Употребление глагольных форм в этих предложениях зависит от степени реальности и времени действия, выраженного глаголом.

В придаточных предложениях реального условия и времени, действие которых отнесено к будущему с союзами: if (если), when (когда), after (после), before (перед тем, как), as soon as (как только), unless (если не), until (до тех пор, пока не) будущее время заменяется формой настоящего времени, но на русский язык переводится будущим. Например: If you help me, I shall do this work in time. Если ты поможешь мне, я выполню эту работу вовремя. As soon as I am free, I shall come to you. Как только я освобожусь, я навещу тебя. We shall not begin until you come. Мы не начнем, пока ты не придешь.

Present Indefinite: The letter is written. Past Indefinite: The letter was written. Future Indefinite: The letter will be written.

Present Continuous: The letter is being written. Past Continuous: The letter was being written.

Future Continuous: The letter will be being written.

Present Perfect: The letter has been written.

Past Perfect: The letter had been written. Future Perfect: The letter will have been written.

Глагол-сказуемое в страдательном залоге показывает, что подлежащее предложения является объектом действия со стороны другого лица или предмета. Сравните:

I bought a book. Я купил книгу. – The book was bought (by me). Книга была куплена

(мной).

Глаголы в страдательном залоге на русский язык переводятся:

1.Глаголом быть + краткая форма причастия страдательного залога:

The letter was sent yesterday. Письмо было послано вчера.

2.Глаголом с частицей -ся (-сь):

This problem was discussed last week. Эта проблема обсуждалась на прошлой неделе.

3.Неопределенно-личным оборотом, т.е. глаголом в действительном залоге 3 лица множественного числа, типа «говорят», «сказали»:

A great many of people, who have access to the Internet, use the network only for sending and receiving E-mail messages. Electronic mail (E- mail) combines the advantage of writing with the responsiveness of the telephone. E- mail systems turn computers into inboxes. As quickly as the term E-mail was established the ability to communicate with different libraries and countries has

increased through linking it to an electronic network such as Internet. E-mail is used widely for internal and external messages and suits itself particularly well to short informal messages. All you need to get started in E-mail is access to a computer with the right hardware, the appropriate software, and an E-mail address.

Internet services combine the use of audio, video, graphics, and text for procuring information. It is possible to gather material through an Internet service. When you enter the term or the topic of your research, you might find dozens of sources. Therefore, you must make choices to narrow down your topic as you work. However the Internet is considered unreliable source of information. Because it is so easy to gather information and nothing guarantees its quality and accuracy, the writer must not become distracted and must be the final judge of the facts obtained. Another problem is its insecurity. When you send an E-mail message to someone, it travels through many different networks and computers.

The information is constantly being directed towards its destination by special computers called routers. So it is possible to intervene into any of the computers along the route, read and even change the data being sent on the Internet. That is why you cannot send original contracts, letters of credit, invoices and other important documents through the Internet. However, these commercial and technical problems will be resolved in the nearest future.

Another popular Internet application is World-Wide Web. The number of Webpages is hundreds of millions. There is a searching system to find the proper Web-page. Such a page contains a short description of a subject (program, institution, etc.) and the reference to other Web-documents. Availability of a home computer along with an online service could be very helpful. That involves installation and a monthly charge for the use of an on-line service. These charges are computed on the basis of time duration; however they are not computed according to the distance to your contacts. Therefore, the opportunities offered by having a home computer with on-line services may be costeffective.
