Поскольку дальнейшее повышение концентрации приводит к уменьшению плотности, для установления ,какая из двух возможных концентраций отвечает найденной плотности (например, при плотности 1,060 г/см3 будет ли массовая доля раствора 53,4 или 95,4%), к данной пробе уксусной кислоты приливают немного воды. Если плотность раствора при этом уменьшится, то нужно взять меньшую концентрацию (53,4%), если увеличится – большую (95,4%).
