The title of this article is “When East meets West”. It was published in newspaper “Culture and Life”. The subject of the article is the International Exhibition of drawings “Gaze from East - Gaze from West”, which was openned several days ago in the Gallery of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
The author introduces that the history of this exhibition laid back to 1993. At that very time in Austrian town Gritz European Community decided to hold a Month of Culture there, aiming at creating joint projects by cultural establishments and creators of Europe. One of these projects was competition of drawings by a short but very distinctive title “East Meets West”. The author explains that this competition was a sort of presentation of artistic alternative positions from different cities and towns of Europe, but not only the principal artistic centres. There were more than 1300 artistic pieces, and International Jury determined the winners. This was the origin of the exhibition “Gaze from East - Gaze from West”, which has been already presented in many cities of Europe. The author points out that this exposition gives to its visitors a lot of opportunities for discussions and comparisons about different but much alike ways of art development within last years.
The author ends this article with note that this exhibition is not the first event organized by the Embassy of Austria in Kyiv, but one in the chain of cultural actions.
I found this article interesting and important.

Text 1 Ukraine.
Our Motherland is Ukraine. It stretches from Chernihiv forests in the north to the shores of the Black and Azov Seas in the south, and from the green Carpathians in the west to the Don steppes in the east. The capital of Ukraine - Kyiv - with its population of three million is the largest political, economical, cultural and scientific centre of the country.
Ukraine is among the largest countries of Europe in territory (603, 700 thousand sq. km) and population (52 million). Ukraine is rich in natural resources, and its natural conditions are favourable for life and work.
The Ukrainian people have a long and notable history and made a considerable contribution to the storehouse of worlds civilisation. Our people are famous for the national industry and agriculture as well as for freedom loving traditions, hospitality and arts.
In August 1991 the Supreme Council of Ukraine proclaimed Ukraine as an independent, sovereign, democratic state. Now Ukraine has all the possibilities to elect its own wise government in order to reconstruct and develop economy and culture and to rise the people’s welfare. We live at a time of great social reforms and spiritual revival of the Ukrainian people. For the first time in history the Ukrainian language, cultural and historical traditions and customs formerly oppressed during the rule of emperors of all sorts receive unlimited freedom and opportunity for development.
