V. Read and translate in writing:

VI. Give a summary of the story "The Bird Woman". Write the key words and use them while speaking.

VII. Answer the following questions on the story "Mrs Carry". Use the active vocabulary:

1. Mary Poppins and the children were doing the shopping. How did Mary treat the Butcher and the Fishmonger? Why? What do you think about small shops and big supermarkets, their advantages and disadvantages?

2. What was the last point of their shopping?

3. Why did the shop look curious?

4. Who were the owners of the shop? Describe their appearance and characters. 5. Was anything strange about Mrs Corry?

6. What inquiries did Mrs Corry make?

7. What happened that night at Michael and Jane's nursery and outdoors?

VIII. Review the active vocabulary of Assignments III and IV. Make up 10 sen­tences with it for your mates to translate. They should be neither too difficult nor too easy.

I. Translate and transcribe the words given below:

II. Find the English equivalents for the following words. Read aloud the corresponding sentences from the book:

V. Write out all the proverbs you meet in the chapters. Explain in English their meaning. Learn them by heart.

VI. Read and translate in writing:

VII. Answer the following questions. Use the active vocabulary:

1. Who visited John and Barbara when Michael and Jane were away?

2. What did the Twins think about the Grown-ups? What admirable ability did the babies have?

3. What upset the babies so much and even made them cry? Who tried to soothe them?

4. In what condition did the Starling find the children after their birthday party? Was he glad that he had been right?

5. How did Mary Poppins behave on the eve of her birthday?

6. Who accompanied Jane and Michael to the Zoo? Who met them at the turnstile? "There seems to be a lot of going on", observed Michael. What did he mean? Who was in the cages and why?

7. What was the Hamadryad like? Why did he come? What was the point of his discussion with Jane and Michael while they were watching the Grand Chain?

8. What did the children think of the previous night the next morning? Was it really their dream?

9. What did Jane and Michael remember about their last morning with Mary Poppins? Why was Michael so disturbed when he received Mary's present?

10. What do you think about Mary Poppins's departure? Why didn't she say anything to the children or the other inhabitants of the house?
