ТЕМА: МАЙБУТНІ ЧАСИ В АНГЛІЙСЬКІЙ МОВІ

МЕТА:

• ознайомити студентів з поняттям «модальнi дiеслова»;

• навчити утворювати фрази, вживаючи модальнi дiеслова;

• розвивати уміння вживати модальнi форми в мовленні,

• виховувати культуру спілкування.

ЗАВДАННЯ:

• навчити вживати модальнi дiеслова відповідно критеріям;

• ознайомити студентів зі способами вживання модальних дiеслiв у повсякденних комунікативних ситуаціях.

Студенти повинні знати:

• утворення та вживання модальних дiеслiв;

• способи їх вживання відповідно до ситуації.

Студенти повинні вміти:

• розрізняти модальнi дiеслова (can/could, may/might, shall/should, must, need, ought to);

• вживати модальнi дiеслова в мовленні;

• робити усний і письмовий переклад, виконувати вправи, вживаючи модальнi дiеслова англійською та українською мовами.

1 Intruduction

Modal verbs (can, could, must, should, ought to, had better, may, might, will, would, shall) are auxiliary verbs that express ability, necessity, request, permission, advice, desire, probability, etc. Modal verbs express the speaker's attitude to the action indicated by the main verb.

She can drive. (ability)

I must go. (strong necessity)

You should call him. (advice)

Could you help me with this report, please? (request)

You may stay here. (permission)

I would like to see her. (desire)

He might leave soon. (possibility)

He must be at the tennis club now. (strong probability)

2 Grammatical peculiarities of Modal Verbs

Modal verbs are also called modal auxiliaries or modals. Modal verbs are sometimes called defective verbs, because they do not have all the functions of main verbs or auxiliary verbs. They can't be used without a main verb, can't form gerunds or participles, and do not have any endings to show person, number, or tense. Modal verbs form questions without the help of the other auxiliary verbs. Some modal verbs are rarely used in questions. Modal verbs also have quite a few peculiarities in the formation of tenses.
