1) to express wish(выражает желание)

e.g. Long live the forces of peacel(Да здравствуют силы мира)

[may] Be ours a happy meeting!

God bless you(Да благословит вас Господь).

Heaven forbid(Небеса запрещают).

2) to express concession(выражать уступку)

e.g. So be it. (Да будет так!)

Come what will.(Будь, что будет!)

Happen what may.(Что случится, то случится!)

Be this/that as it may...(Как бы то ни было...)

Let it be so.(Пусть будет так!)

3) Suffice to say that...(Достаточно сказать, что...)

4) certain imprecations (определенные проклятия)

1) the present conditional mood is used with reference to the present or future

2) the present conditional mood is used with reference to the past

e.g. Twenty years ago I would have strongly disapproved of you ( if it

had been 20 years ago)

He would have said a great deal more. I should never have thought possible.

3) Can / May - in the form of the past tense to express unreality

e.g. He is never asked me about it thought he knows I could never tell him a lie

4) Subj. + could/may + verb 3 (have/ verb 3) + PAST

e.g. There was a wonderful concert at the Victoria hall could have gone to

5) Complex sentence

e.g. In the old days she would have tried to make him see why she had done it

6) The highest degree of politeness

e.g. I should have said he is nothing out of the ordinary

7) Modal verbs/Set phrases:

should/ought + had better, would rather, would sooner, should/would like

e.g. She decided that they had better stay in town for another week
