5. Сonclusions

1. The English vocabulary in ME and NE was enriched primarily at the expense of borrowings from other languages: Scandinavian, French and classical languages.

2. Though the influence of other languages on English vocabulary in the 12^th – 15^th c. was quite substantial, the basic word-stock comprised native words of common Germanic origin.
