Geography (Countries and Cities)

This dialogue is a conversation between Mr. And Mrs. Gates, who have just won a travelling tour around the world. They’re suggested visiting 2 places. So they are discussing where to go.

Mrs. – Cool, it appears to me, we are going on vacation, aren’t we?

Mr. – Definitely. You know, I’ve just been to a travel agency and got these leaflets, brochures and maps. Let’s go through them. Shall we?

Mrs. – Right. There are so many countries in the world. Some you know, some you don’t. Some are near, some are far, some sound exotic like Zanzibar, ‘cause these are places in the world: Bombay, Care May, Mandaly and Baffin Bay.

Mr. – Baghdad, Leningrad, Ashkabad, Trinidad, L. A., Norway, Paraguay, Monterey, Singapore, Ecuador, Bangalor, Baltimore, these are places in the world.

Mrs. – You know, I’ve already been to many European counties such as Slovakia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany but I haven’t visited France yet. What about going there?

Mr. – Well, to my mind, it must be really interesting. By the way, you know, my editor asked me to write a report about this magnificent country. And if we go there, I can share my impressions with my readers.

Mrs. – Definitely. And as far as I know, you can Speak French, can’t you?

Mr. – Oh, I’m afraid my French is not very good.

Mrs. – Don’t be silly it’s wonderful.

Mr. – It’s terrible.

Mrs. – Don’t be silly, it’s wonderful. You speak French very well.

Mr. – No, I don’t.

Mrs. – Yes, you do.

Mr. – No, I don’t that’s not true.

Mrs. – Yes, it is. You really do speak French very well.

Mr. – Thank you. You’re very kind.

Mrs. – No, I mean it. I really mean it. You really do speak French very well.

Mr. – Thank you. Well, so we decided to visit the capital of all sweethearts, where streets are full of peaceful and romantic atmosphere. Still we have a chance to visit another country.

Mrs. – Well, France is a European country and why don’t we go to Asia. What about going to Japan to Tokyo on our vacation? How do you like it?

Mr. – I like it a lot. I love it. As far as I know. Tokyo is a city of great contrasts a real mixture of ancient and modern. No doubt there are many things to do and places to go. But can you speak Japanese?

Mrs. – Not very well. Just a little.

Mr. – But can you understand it?

Mrs. – More or less?

Mr. – Look, there are some words in Japanese. Can you translate them?

Mrs. – Let me try… Oh no, I give up. I can’t do it. Unfortunately, it’s not my native language.

Mr. – Don’t give up. Try it again.

Mrs. – I read it twice. I couldn’t understand it.

Mr. – Don’t give up. Read it again.

Mrs. – Ok. If I’m not mistaken, it means Japan is worth seeing.

Mr. – Well, we’ve made the right choice.

Mrs. – We definitely have.
