Количество смертей, вызванных насилием в семье, значительно снизилось в графстве Санта Клара

Количество людей, погибших в графстве Санта Клара в прошлом году в результате насилия в семье, снизилось до 6 че­ловек - наименьшее число с 1994 г.

По словам Пьер-Диксон, председателя комитета по учету смертей в результате домашнего насилия, несмотря на то, что годовой спад с 21 до 6 человек и является важным импульсом, это не значит, что графство может праздновать победу.

Комитет установил ряд причин, вызвавших указанное сни­жение в 2004 г. Наиболее важным, по словам председателя, явля­ется то, что люди быстрее сообщают о фактах насилия, не по­влекших смертельный исход. Соответственно, полиция быстрее конфискует огнестрельное оружие и арестовывает нарушителя, а прокуроры становятся более твердыми в подобных делах. Пьер-Диксон утверждает, что юридическая поддержка жертв насилия и их детей также меняется. Однако она опасается, что при сокра­щении бюджета данных программ можно потерять этот положи­тельный импульс, когда все только начинает улучшаться.

Никто из людей, пострадавших от насилия в семье в 5,337 слу­чаев, наблюдавшихся комитетом в прошлом году, не умер в ре­зультате подобных инцидентов. «Мы полагаем, это ясно отра­жает тот факт, что работа полиции, а также введение образовательных программ касательно насилия в семье помогли снизить

количество смертельных исходов», - отметила Пьер-Диксон. За прошлый год прокуратура графства рассмотрела 3,074 дел, т.е. в среднем каждую неделю по 71 делу о домашнем насилии. Еще одной хорошей новостью, указанной в ежегодном отчете о смертности, является то, что ни один ребенок не погиб в результате насилия в семье в прошлом году, в то время как в 2003 г. эта цифра составляла 5, а в 2002 г - 6 детей.

Отчет в очередной раз указал и на тревожные сигналы роста насилия в семье. Во всех 6 смертных случаях жертва говорила™ разводе или расставании, в то время как преступник не JSS с этим смириться. В 5 случаях преступление предварялось угро­зами убийства. И в каждом случае преступники странно себя ве­ли перед тем, как случалась трагедия. Виновник насилия всегда был «одиночкой», не имевшим настоящий друзей.
