Winter Subtraction Game

Materials: White minuend and subtrahend cards, yellow di erence cards, and 20 small objects for counting.

Directions: Print and cut the white and yellow number cards on the next pages. Print the Winter Subtraction Game playing board. You may wish to laminate both the number cards and the Winter Subtraction Game playing board for greater durability.

To play, have your child select two of the white number cards. Your child should put the greater number in the left minuend box and the lesser number in the middle subtrahend box.

Then, have your child count out objects equal to the number in the left minuend box and place them on the game board.

Next, have your child take away objects equal to the number in the right subtrahend box.

Finally, have your child find the yellow di erence card that represents the number of objects remaining. Your child should place the yellow di erence card in the di erence box to the right of the equals sign.

Note: Depending on your child’s skill level, you may want to start with just white numbers 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 rather than numbers up to 20.
