Методичний посібник призначений для студентів денного відділення факультету інженерної механіки. Основна мета посібника - розвиток навичок читання, загального і точного розуміння тексту, усного мовлення, анотування та реферування спеціальної літератури за фахом.
Посібник складається з 40 текстів. Більшість текстів у посібнику підібрані з оригінальних джерел і містять необхідну термінологію із спеціальності. До текстів подані запитання, пояснення складних конструкцій, вправи на закріплення лексико - граматичного матеріалу.
Методичний посібник передбачає виконання різних видів робіт, спрямованих на накопичення, систематизацію та засвоєння лексичного та граматичного матеріалу під час аудиторних занять та самостійної роботи студентів.
