SUMMARY

Psychological component of the therapeutic effect of any therapy, from pharmacotherapy to physiotherapy, which is known as «placebo effect», is determined by various factors, such as doctor, personnel, friends, colleagues, publicity, fashion, prejudices, rumors etc, as well as by the relation of a patient to him/her-self, illness, doctor, medication.

This monograph is based on author's both research on the placebo effect in patients and healthy volunteers for many years. It summarizes and critically reviews a considerable volume of information on placebo, placebo effects in various diseases, placebo control and placebo therapy. In this book attention is focused on personality of both patient and doctor, their relation to pharmacotherapy and concrete medications, as well as on patient-doctor communications, compliance and coping.
